February 22, 1933 - December 14, 2020

George Finis Swiderski, age 87 of Marshall, Arkansas passed away on Monday, December 14th, 2020 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison, Arkansas. He was born at Rt. 2, Vilonia, Arkansas on February 22nd, 1933 on George Washington's birthday to Tony Swiderski and Frances Heslep Swiderski.

George was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the United States Air Force. Upon returning to Vilonia, he worked for the Standard and Allied Telephone Company and was transferred to the Marshall office. There he met Ellen Maye Drewry, a switch board operator. George and Ellen were married December 17th, 1962 on her birthday. In 1970 he was elected County and Circuit Clerk of Searcy County. He served in that position for 12 years. According to the late George Daniel, "George Swiderski is the only county official ever elected in Searcy County that was not from Searcy County". George later served the city of Marshall as Mayor from 1990 to 1994. He contacted many during his years of public service and was always friendly and helpful. He enjoyed quail hunting, crappie fishing and the horse races. George took great pride in his garden, and he loved to talk politics.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Frances Swiderski; four brothers, Virgil, Lonnie, Chuck and Ardell; and two sisters, Madie and Maggie.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ellen Drewry Swiderski; son, Terry Finis Swiderski and wife Molli; and three grandchildren, Katelyn Maye Swiderski, Sarah Claire Swiderski and Matthew Ross Swiderski.

Graveside services for George will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 16th, 2020 at Bear Creek Cemetery near Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. Jackie Smithson officiating. Bearers will be Kevin Elliott, Kenny Cassell, Johnny Neel, Sonny Woods, Sid Lowrance and Don Stoner. Honorary bearer will be Matthew Swiderski. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Searcy County Veterans Memorial Association, 108 Noah Horton Memorial Drive, Marshall, AR 72650.

I was so sorry to hear about George. He was a memorable part of my childhood. My grandparents - Kenneth and Dean Smyth - thought a lot about him! He was always so happy and nice when we'd stop and talk. He gave my Granny some okra seeds and they were the BEST okra Granny had grown before. We still call them George Swiderski okra and that's even how we label them when we out the seeds we've saved for others to grow. He was a great man. We're thinking of your family.

Terry, I am lifting you and all of your family in prayers during this time of loss. May the Lord wrap each of you in His arms of love & comfort that only His arms are able to give. There are no words to give during a time of loss to fix the hurt, only the Lord can do that, I know that all too well. Please know that you are loved by your Mississippi family and you are certainly in our thoughts and prayers. Let me know if there's anything I can do. God bless you all.

Terry, condolences to you and your family. I remember your Dad taking my Dad and me fishing down to some big lake south of Marshall, maybe Greer's ferry in 1968. it was the day Robert Kennedy was shot as I remember hearing them talk about in the boat. Peace be with you.

I am so sorry for your loss. George was a big part of my childhood memories since he lived across from one of my grandparents gardens and where they kept cattle and horses when we would go with them to check the garden or feed he would always come out and talk to us.
