January 4, 1942 - September 15, 2020

The mother and children of James Devoe Woodworth, of Harrison, hosted a Memorial Service in his memory on Saturday, September 19, 2020, at 10:00, am, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with interment later that afternoon in Alpena Cemetery.

Devoe Woodworth, age 78, of Harrison, was born January 4, 1942, to Agnes Woodworth, of Compton, Arkansas. He was the grandson of Faye and Ross Carter. Devoe began school in Compton and graduated from Valley Springs High School. Devoe was a member of the Arkansas National Guard and received an honorable discharge. Devoe loved his family, especially his grandparents, Faye and Ross Carter, of Compton, and his mother, Agnes Woodworth, of Alpena and Compton.

Devoe is survived by his mother Agnes; his daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Nielsen, of Houston; two sons, Lynn Woodworth of Arlington, Virginia and Keith Alford (Ventura) of Rogers; his wife, Linda, of the home; and his sisters, Melva Kitchens of Naples, Texas, and Peggy Roberts and Rita Woodworth, both of Compton. Devoe leaves behind four grandchildren, Denton, Brogan, Avery, and Deven; and a host of nieces and nephews who he greatly loved. Devoe was preceded in death by his grandparents, Faye and Ross Carter; his dad, Melvin Woodworth; his sister, Brenda Roberts; and his father, Ernie Bartlett.

Devoe had a lifetime full of friends including Robert Hathaway, Erton McNair, Sam Barr, and the road crews in both Boone and Carroll Counties. Devoe led an adventurous life. He competed in steer wrestling and raised cattle and horses all of his life. He built pipelines in Iran and Nigeria as well as all over the United States. Later in life, Devoe worked for the Boone County Road Department where he eventually became the county road foreman. He would go on to serve as the Carroll County Road Department foreman as well.

Family and friends gathered at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home to share your memories and say goodbye to Devoe.

Roller-Christeson Funeral Home is complying with the Arkansas Department of Health guidelines for COVID-19 and limiting indoor funeral and visitation attendance. All attendees must provide and wear their own masks before entering.

Early morning rising, frost on the grass,
Have to get moving, this day will not last.
We take to the saddles, the three of us ride,
Old friends and compadres, we ride side by side.
We ride up the hill sides, and valleys below,
It's hard on our old bodies but good for our souls.
Protective mamas and calves, they all must be caught,
Another crazy herd Devoe must have bought.
''Brangus mamas and babies'', he states with a thrill.
Erton turns to me, ''I hope we don't get killed''
Cowboys have done this for hundreds of years,
I turn to Erton ''I guess that's the reason they're still not here''
One thing is certain, when our ride finally ends,
Through all the cussing and swearing we'll always be friends.
With our past behind us and God as our guide,
He'll choose the direction and horse we will ride.
We'll saddle those horses, ride the heavens above,
Thank God for letting us do the things that we love.
We'll ride through the night, sunshine and rain,
We'll share the last round up on God's golden range.
The times that we share will always be great,
But last one out will have to close the gate.

Devoe, Erton, Robert

Devoe was a wonderful father and father-in-law. He was a very special “Pawpaw” to his grandchildren. He led an adventurous life. At gatherings, he was the storyteller and could keep us mesmerized for hours as he spoke of his adventures. He will be missed greatly but will be carried on in our hearts and fondest memories. “We love you Pawpaw”.

What a great family gathering is now taking place, with grandma and grandpa and the whole human race. Some day we will join you rather it be early or late, to sit in God's light and bask in His grace. I can only imagine how things will be, but I know you will meet us by that clear crystal sea. So until we all sit at supper, with Jesus you see, thank you so much, for the great memories.....You have truly been a friend to all that you meet, and you will be sorely missed.
