Jimmy J. McClung

of Little Rock, AR

March 29, 1936 - May 16, 2020

Jimmy J. McClung, age 84 of Little Rock, Arkansas passed from this life on Saturday, May 16th, 2020, peacefully at his home. He was born in Searcy County, Arkansas on March 29th, 1936 to Laud Ray McClung and Walcie Mae Jackson McClung.

Jim was a determined, strong and caring man who loved his family immensely. He was married to his soulmate and best friend, Lavanda, for almost 60 years. Together they raised three amazing children, who then blessed them with 4 granddaughters. Jim worked at Granite Mountain Quarries for 37 years, where he made many lifelong friends. His favorite pastimes were hunting deer, running foxes with his hound dogs, a good western movie and laying in his favorite recliner with his dog on his lap. He adored his 4 granddaughters, who referred to him as 'Pa.' Jim would proudly stare at them in awe, for they softened his heart and brought him great joy. He was a man of few words, but his inviolable eye contact spoke a thousand words. He followed every "I love you," with a grunt, which was his way of saying, "I love you, too." And he followed every hug with a hard pat on the back and a tight squeeze, showing his vast amount of endearment. As he got older, the wrinkles that aged his face were like stories and memories that had imprinted upon him and shaped him into the unwaveringly loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather he became; the man who created our family. Jim's memory will continue to live on through his devoted family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Lavanda Gregg McClung of the home; children, Tina (Raymond) Ridge and Traci (Michael) Stockton; grandchildren, Lauren Henson, Shelby Henson, Samantha Brown and Madalyn Stockton: and many cousins, other family and friends who will mourn his passing.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Laud and Walcie McClung; his son, Jimmy Douglas McClung; and siblings, Bonnie June Massey, Virginia Losell McClung and Laud Ray McClung Jr.

Graveside services for Jimmy will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 20th, 2020 at Marshall Memorial Gardens. Friends and family will serve as bearers. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we are still practicing social distancing at our graveside services and recommending all patrons wear a mask. Anyone with underlying health conditions are advised to please stay home. Mom and Dad loved Uncle Jim. Mom would always say he was her favorite! Dad counted him as a friend first. He was one-of-a-kind. Cindy and I are so sorry for your loss.

My sympathy to all the family and loved ones. I knew Jimmy because we all went to school at Big Flat. I was a neighbor to his sister Laselle Wallace and close to his sister Bonnie. I loved his mom Walsie. My prayers are with his family for comfort and to have good memories.
