Alice Anne Sillings Ragland, age 76 of Marshall, Arkansas, passed away on April 8, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born April 26, 1943 to Hudson and Sally Sillings in Montclair, New Jersey.
At a few months old, Alice and her parents moved to Middletown, New York where her parents had 10 more children. She attended Saint Thomas of Canterbury School in Cornwall, NY, grades K-8. As a teenager, she went to Cornwall High School and worked at Leary's Ice Cream Stand. She attended Orange County Community College where she graduated with a degree as a. Laboratory Technician in 1966, she married Edgar Louis Ragland. Together, they had five children in New York before they moved to Marshall, Arkansas and had seven more.
Alice was a stay at home mom until 1990 when she became a lab technician at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center. She worked there for almost 22 years. Alice was a devout member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Clinton, Ark. where every Sunday she could be found adjusting her hearing aids and telling her grandchildren to sit still. In her retirement, she loved nothing more than being with her family. She could rarely be found at her house, but instead in the homes of all her children helping make dinner or doing the dishes. I am so sorry for your loss. I met Alice while in Marshall looking at family land (Flora Garrison). My son and I were lost on the road past Grandview Cemetery trying to find the land. We walked for awhile until we came to Alice’s house. We stopped to ask directions and this wonderful woman, Alice, got in the truck and took us to the spot. She and I looked at the land and decided, almost simultaneously, that it would be a great spot for a treehouse. :). She then took us to meet other relatives down the road and gave us some family history. What a wonderful day we had! I immediately felt a connection with Alice and wished that I lived there to see her everyday. Such energy and spirit all reflected in that warm, friendly smile! I was blessed to meet her on that day.
I always thought of Alice as a sister. She was a loving beautiful person and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. I met her in New York soon After she married Louis. Through the years I remember her sweetness and compassion.may she Rest In Peace.. My love and sympathies to her family.
To all of Alice’s children and grandchildren, we are so sorry for your loss. Aunt Alice was a beautiful soul and we are all going to miss her dearly. She was special to us. I loved and adored her and I am going to miss our visits, and her hugs, and that smile. That smile, it was great wasn’t it? She always wore it. She was the true form of love and kindness. All of you are truly blessed to have had such an amazing mom & grandma. May God wrap his arms around each of you and help heal your broken hearts. Sending my love and prayers to you all.
It doesn’t seem real that she’s gone and it never will to me. She raised beautiful daughters and one son. I look up to every one of my aunts, more than some and grannie Alice. The greasiest thing to do is to be the woman she was and to love, care, and show passion to every child, grandchild, and great grandchild. She always tried to make it to everyone’s birthday and be there for her family, friends, and many others. She had a big heart and smile that will never fade as these years pass by. Never miss a chance to spend more time with your loved ones, for tomorrow is never promised. Grannie Alice is happy, she’s in heaven with Jesus.
Trish, Gail, and all, I want you to know that I love you all and I thought the world of Alice. She was always kind, sweet, and soft spoken. I have never heard anyone say one bad thing against her. Now that is a legacy we should all strive for, she was an amazing woman, and a wonderful role model to all us women. I'm praying for you all and thanking God He gave you such a wonderful blessing as your beautiful mother. Cheryl
