Barkley J. Bullard

of Houston, TX

August 28, 1921 - March 16, 2020

Barkley J. Bullard died peacefully on March 16, 2020 at Clarewood House, a retirement community in Houston, Texas where she had been living since 2017.
She is survived by three children: Darrell (Lynn) Bullard of Houston, Kathy (Mike) Parks of Memphis Tennessee, and Kent (Pat) Bullard of Russellville, Arkansas; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Hubert E. Bullard; her oldest daughter Linda Mooney; and her parents Barkley F. Jackson and Birdie Womack Jackson.

Barkley was born near Cypert, Arkansas, the youngest of five children. It was her father's death only months before she was born that resulted in her unique first name.

Following graduation from Marvell High School, she attended Draughon School of Business in Little Rock.
In 1941 Barkley and Hubert were married and took up residence in Helena, Arkansas. The following year, Hubert was drafted into the U.S. Army and Barkley raised their small daughter Linda on her own until he returned from the war three years later. The sacrifices she made for her young family during those war years were typical of her selfless dedication to family throughout her life.

She began working at Helena National Bank (now Partners) in the early 1950s and rose to the position of Administrative Assistant Vice President before retiring more than forty years later.

Barkley was active in Church activities until poor eyesight caused her to stop driving to church at the age of 94. Roses and the Razorbacks were among her life-long passions. She was a living repository of family history, generously sharing photos and memories.

A private interment for immediate family only will be held at Cypert Cemetery, to be followed by a memorial service in Helena at a later date.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Services will be directed by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Helena, (870) 572-2571. Relatives and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/westhelena.

My beloved and beautiful aunt has gone to be with loved ones in Heaven. She has always been an important part of my life and I will miss our conversations. She was a great example of a Christian life well lived. Thank you, Aunt Barkley, for all the good memories.

Prayers for the family and friends for peace and comfort as we celebrate the transition to her Heavenly home. She is praising our Lord free of the challenges that a full life of helping others had reduced the joy of living and loving as she had been so generous to share not only with her family but with all she had contact with. We will celebrate by retelling the memories she created in our lives.
Love for the family

To Mrs. Bullard's Family,
I was so saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Bullard. She was such a sweet Friend that I worked with at Helena National in the 70's. I so enjoyed the many talks that we had. My prayer is that the Lord will wrap His loving arms around each of you at this time and give you the strength, love, courage and most of all comfort to know that Mrs. Bullard is now in Heaven with her Heavenly Father and no more pain or heartaches or tears. God Bless each of you and know that your Mother, Grandmother is in a beautiful place now and one day you will be reunited with her again. Love Barbara
