I am so sorry for your loss. Aunt Irma was a wonderful lady. I remember when Lisa was born she came for a week and took care of me. The food she made was wonderful. It was the first time I ever had Sloppy Joes and they were made from scratch nothing out of a can for her. Her raisin pies were amazing. She would invite me and Kathy to her house for lunch and we couldn’t wait to get there for her amazing food. I loved her very much. Blessings and Prayers for the family.

Aunt Irma was very special to me and to my family our entire lives. My parents divorced when I was five years old and Mom and my two younger brothers went to live with our grandmother for about two years before she remarried. During this time Uncle Henry married Aunt Irma. He, Wesley and Marilyn had been like our older brothers and sister during that time. Aunt Irma just fell in love with us and we with her. Mom soon remarried and we got our own place. Henry and Irma kept coming to visit us and we enjoyed every visit. Our Step-Father became an alcoholic and didn’t meet his financial obligations to the family. Neither did my Dad. Mom worked two jobs to try and support us but things were very difficult and we often went without food, clothes and/ or utilities. During this time Henry and Irma would occasionally bring us food, clothing, and help Mom pay a bill occasionally. They also bought our Christmas on a few occasions. They were newlyweds struggling to make ends meet, but somehow found it in their hearts to be the heroes our family needed so badly at that time. I’ll never forget how great it was to see them coming to see us, especially when Aunt Irma brought us her wonderful coconut cake with seven minute frosting on it! Oh! We thought we were in Heaven when we tasted it! She was such a blessing to us and we loved her so much. Then Uncle Wesley married her sister, Barbara. We loved them, too! We had the most wonderful family reunions back then mostly because Irma and Barbara made that happen. They were both excellent cooks and always brought enough food to feed a small army! Irma kept in contact with our family over the years even after we three older kids went to the Children’s Home in Monticello. She stayed friends with Mom because she knee Mom was trying to help us have a better life. Mom continued to work, take care of our younger brother and sister while going to school to get a better job. Henry and Irma helped her when they could. I came home early from the children’s home because after talking to Grandma, I thought I needed to come home to protect her. That was a silly idea that backfired and I ended up living with Uncle Henry and Aunt Irma when I was fifteen years old. Ricky and Charles were about 2 and 6 years old. I remember the first time she walked Ricky to the bus stop to go to first grade. It was about half a mile to the bus stop and she didn’t have a car at the time. He was so cute and so eager to be a big boy and ride the school bus! Charles was still running around in training pants and being potty trained! Irma was so proud of her boys and loved them so much. She was an excellent seamstress and made many of their clothes. She also made barbie doll clothes for many of her nieces and made doll beds and chairs out of tuna fish cans and sardine cans. She was so crafty as well and made beautiful crafts of several kinds. If you visited her home, it was always spotless and pristine. She did all the budgeting for the family and taught her sons to budget wisely as well. She had 11 living brothers and sisters then and was always available if she was needed by any of them. I often heard her crying because she was worried about one or another of them who was having some sort of issue at that time and i’m sure they worried about her as well. They were a very close family. At the same time, she didn’t mind in the least letting you know just how she felt about something and most the time she hit the nail on the head. Oh, I always admired the way both Wesley & Barbara & Henry and Irma always worked together to build each other’s houses. They started out with nothing and helped each other build fine homes for their families. Bravo, I say to them. You guys have been and still our heroes. We love you, Aunt Irma. We will miss you here, but I’m sure you are you are being so blessed in Heaven now! My brothers and I always looked up to you as an example to work toward becoming as we were growing up and I just want to say thank you for everything you did for Mom and us. We will always love you and never forget you. Hugs and Kisses. Miss you.
