N.W. Gates of Horseshoe Lake, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, December 30 at Methodist Hospital in Memphis. Mr. Gates was born on October 20, 1935, in Pinedale, Mississippi to Mr. Lyn Gates and Mrs. Iona Clark. NW was retired from Memphis City Schools and co-owner of the Happy Hocker Pawn Shop in Memphis. He was a Memphis resident for 60 years until relocating to Horseshoe Lake in Arkansas. NW leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Ann Agee Gates, one daughter Lynn Mazurkiewicz of Fairport,NY (Anthony), their children, Brooks Balcer (Shawn), Bradley Jamison , Brent and Bryce Lynn Mazurkiewicz of Fairport , NY. ; one son, Alan Gates of Memphis (Vail), their children Lauren, Bishop, John Morgan, Henry and Ivy Gates of Memphis; step daughter, Suzanne Seal (Pete), of Horseshoe Lake; Their son Robert Akridge, three siblings; Ellie Carol Bowden (Billy Ed), Tomi Kyker (Ed) and Victor Clark (Vicki); several nieces, nephews, cousins and, valued friends; two great granddaughters Kinsley and Emery Balcer of Fairport NY Great Grandson Chris Akridge. NW was predeceased by his parents Lyn E Gates and Iona Gates Clark; two sisters Caroline and Anita.
