Amy Mildred Snow

of Mt. Pleasant, AR

April 12, 1907 - April 13, 2007

Amy Mildred Snow, 100, of the Stella Community near Mount Pleasant until a month ago when she became a resident of Cave City Nursing Home died on Friday, April 13, 2007.

Amy Finley was born on April 12, 1907 in Dublin, Texas, a daughter of Pleas and Nancy McMurtrey Finley. Her parents had always lived in the Finley Creek Community area of Sage, moved to Texas for two years during the time she was born but moved back to Izard County after their home burned down. They moved out there to be near Amy's grandparents and other McMurtrey relatives who had moved to Texas from Izard County in wagons in 1904. She was one of seven children, the second daughter born to Mr. & Mrs. Finley.

Amy met her husband, Burnis Snow who passed away in 1994 in the CCC Camp at Sage in the 1930's. They were married in 1936 and their first home was on the Stephen Taylor homestead located one mile behind the Concord Baptist Church where she was a member. Amy and Burnis had two sons and were married for 58 years.

She and her husband worked hard all of their lives in the fields farming and traveling to different places such as Van Nuys, California and Wichita, Kansas to work and live doing what had to be done to survive including working on the family farm in Sage for many years. She was an extremely talented artist and drew pictures of the Stephen Taylor homestead built in 1850 and the picture is now preserved at the Melbourne Museum. Amy was also a published poet writing poetry well into her 90's.

Amy is survived by her son, Jackie Dennis Snow of Mt. Pleasant; one granddaughter, Jacqueline Denise Pirvette of Burns, Tennessee; and one great-granddaughter, Chloe Ryan Pirvette also of Burns. She is also survived by four nieces, one nephew and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Burnis Snow; one son, Carson Jay Snow; three brothers: Purvis Finley, Avord Finley, and Marcus Finley; one sister, Lockie Finley Hightower; and two siblings who died in childhood.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Finley Creek Baptist Church with Noble Wiles officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Webb, Johnny Dale, Rayburn Finley, Bill Sipes, Leon Snow, Billy Snow and Paul Massey. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Melbourne.
