Virginia Lea Glascock Nichols passed away on February 3, 2026. Virginia was born in 1932 at Mountain Valley, Arkansas. She was the younger daughter of Ralph N. and C. Allie (Graves) Glascock. Preceding her in death were her parents and her sister, Betty Jean Robinson. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, John Decator Nichols; daughter Vicki (Dr. Robert) McCarron; son Keith (Wendy) Nichols; grandchildren: Beth (Paul) Knipscheer; Jennifer (Allen) Wear; Josef (Natalie) Nichols; John (Melissa) Nichols and great grandchildren: Christian Knipscheer, Ellis Knipscheer, Drake Nichols, Gage Nichols, James Nichols and Sylvie Nichols.
Virginia grew up in Hot Springs. The family attended church at Park Place Baptist and Walnut Valley Baptist rarely missing a Sunday. Playing hymns on the piano was a favorite pastime. Virginia, known affectionately as Dindy, attended Ramble Elementary School and graduated from Fountain Lake High School playing on the girls basketball team and excelling in academics. She attended Arkansas Tech University in Russellville on an Academic Scholarship and Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia.
A new chapter in her life began with her marriage to J.D. Nichols in 1953 after he returned from Germany while serving in the US Air Force. They moved to Fayetteville where Vicki was born. After J.D. graduated from the University of Arkansas, they moved to Benton, AR. J.D. was employed by Alcoa Aluminum and they welcomed the birth of Keith. The family subsequently lived in Mobile, Alabama; Pittsburgh, PA and Kingston, Jamaica eventually returning to Benton. After their children were grown, Virginia and J.D. transferred again to Jamaica then embarked on new adventures in Sao Paulo and Sao Luis, Brazil. The couple became acquainted with many new friends enjoying bridge, tennis, exploring the areas and entertaining in their home. They retired to Little Rock, Arkansas in 1987 and ultimately to Conway.
Virginia's Christian faith was the guiding force in her life. She was a loving, responsible and self sacrificing wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Taking responsibility for your actions, never blaming others for your mistakes and always looking for the good in others were lessons taught and exemplified by her actions. Her many talents included beautiful needlework, genealogy, china painting, flower arranging, journaling and decorating. Virginia never forgot to send a prompt thank you note. Especially loved was Christmas at home with all of her extended family and the giving of presents. Mom was truly the matriarch that held the family together while Dad was occupied with a challenging profession. Virginia loved her family and her family loved her.
