Danny Lynn Maynard, Sr.

of England, AR

November 20, 1939 - January 24, 2026

Danny Lynn Maynard, Sr.

Danny Lynn Maynard, Sr., was born on November 20, 1939, in Wright, Arkansas, to James Patrick (J.P.) Maynard and Jonnie Lucille Grace Maynard. He went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 24, 2026. Danny graduated Plum Bayou School in May 1957. He continued his education at Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, now the University of Central Arkansas.

On October 10, 1957, Danny married his high school sweetheart, Jo Ann Van Dalsem. Together they shared a loving marriage and raised two children: Danny L. Maynard, Jr., and Dana Michelle Maynard Bowie.

In 1959, Danny moved his family to Santa Ana, California, where he worked for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach for approximately a year and a half. The family later returned to Wright, Arkansas, where Danny began farming. When rental land became scarce, he also worked at the paper mill in Pine Bluff. As more farmland became available, he devoted himself fully to farming.

In 1979, Danny founded his own construction company, specializing in the sale and erection of metal buildings through Butler Manufacturing Company, Butler grain bin systems, and Valmont pivot irrigation systems. As the business grew, he stepped away from farming. In 1980, Danny and Jo Ann moved their family and business to England, Arkansas, where they operated Maynard's, Inc. alongside their son, Danny Jr., until Danny's retirement in 2006.

Following his retirement, Danny served three consecutive terms as Mayor of England, from January 1, 2007, through December 31, 2018. Danny deeply loved serving as mayor and formed many lifelong friendships during his years in office.

Danny was a kind man who never met a stranger. He had a servant's heart and was always willing to help others, whether through his work, his church, or simply by offering encouragement and friendship. He was known for his integrity, strong work ethic, quiet generosity, and dry humor. He took great pride in providing for his family and serving his community.

Throughout his life, Danny was active in his community and church. He served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at both County Line Missionary Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of England. He was President of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau and served on advisory councils for Butler Manufacturing (Kansas City) and Valmont (Omaha, Nebraska). He also served on the Boards of Directors for ARCare, CASA, and CAPDD.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sandy Maynard.

Danny is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Maynard; his son, Danny Maynard, Jr. (Shelley), and his daughter, Dana Bowie (Buddy). He is also survived by grandchildren: Jarod (Kristi), Jonathan (Jennifer), and Jonah (Tyler) Maynard; Chad Bowie (Dawn), Anna Bowen (Brian), Cole Bowie (Madison), and Layne Bowie (Loren). He is further survived by great-grandchildren: Knox, Marlee, Brody, Beau, Jack, and Tucker Maynard; Catie and Cortland Bowie; Evie and Ella Bowen; Colson Bowie; and Tristen and Maddux Bowen.

Danny Lynn Maynard, Sr., will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a dedicated public servant, a faithful church member, and a man whose leadership and friendship left a lasting impact on the family and community he loved.
