of Marion, AR
September 1, 1932 - January 14, 2026
Sammie Ray ''Sam'' Britton, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at his home in Marion, Arkansas.
Sam was born on September 1, 1932, in Colt, Arkansas, to Emmitt and Alice Britton. A proud Arkansan through and through, Sam found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially time spent working in his yard, always followed by a well-earned glass of ice-cold sweet tea. He believed in steady effort and straight lines, values he carried both on and off the course.
He was a devoted sports fan, cheering faithfully for the Arkansas Razorbacks and the New York Yankees. Sam attended Cypress Avenue Baptist Church and lived his life guided by faith, hard work, and a quiet, humble spirit.
Sam honorably served four years in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he built a long and steady career with the United States Postal Service, retiring as a Night Supervisor. In retirement, he found a second fairway, working as a groundskeeper at Southwind TPC in Memphis and later at Marion Golf Course in Marion, Arkansas. Golf was more than a pastime, it was his happy place. Whether tending the grounds or walking the course, Sam took pride in leaving things a little better than he found them.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria Britton; his parents, Emmitt and Alice Britton; and his siblings, Nan Britton, Barbara Goe, Donald Britton, Larry Britton, and Doug Britton.
Sam is survived by his children, Julie Coveny and her husband Carlton, and Pat Britton and his wife Lisa; his grandchildren, Leanne Britton, Austin Britton and his wife Alanna, and Alex Coveny; and his great-grandchildren, Barrett and John August Britton, and brother Greg.
Julie, Carlton and Alex would like to thank Tracy Drace and her amazing team of caregivers. A special thanks to Ms. Vanessa, Ms. Donna, Ms. Harmony, Ms. Meagan, Ms. Elanore, and Ms. Delores. All of these ladies became family; we couldn't have cared for Dad without their help. Thank you to Dierkson Hospice, especially nurses Brittany and Tonya. A special thanks to Sasha, who always kept us in good spirits.
Sam has now played his final round, but his legacy, marked by love, faith, family, and a life well played, will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

Julie, I won't be able to attend the service because I'm involved in CBS as a leader and we meet on Wednesdays. I send my prayers and love for you and your family and will be thinking about you , especially on that day. Just always remember him and his memories with love and a privilege ❤️ I hope to see you soon! Much love

Great memories working with Sam at the West Memphis post office while
I was in high school and college. After a 12 hour overnight shift Sam and I
and Charlie Lum would play golf at Pine Hill in Memphis often. Great times.
Rest in peace my friend.

Julie and Pat and families, I am so saddened by the news of Sam's passing. Yes, he was one of the best! My dad, Wallace, was like his older brother. My siblings always enjoyed the times we were together at your grandparents' house or when he came to visit us. So much personality! Cherish those memories!

I'm so sorry to hear of Sam's passing. I have many memories of visiting your family when your Uncle Bill and Sha-Sha would take us to make the rounds in Arkansas. Cherish your memories.
Becky (Wallace's daughter)

Sam was a great man always a smile on his face. Was fortunate enough to have had the pleasure working with Sam at Marion Golf & Athletic Club.

Uncle Sam was one of the best men I've known. Always had that big beautiful smile. I will always have wonderful memories of Him, Aunt Gloria, Patrick and Julie and my sweet Grandma Ida Catalani. I love you all❤️
