June 22, 1948 - January 5, 2026
Ann Marie Fung, age 77, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, surrounded by love.
Ann was born on June 22, 1948, in Guangdong, China, to Frank Chu-Yang and Mary Lum. At the age of 14, she courageously moved to Trinidad and Tobago, and later, at 19, made her home in Hughes, Arkansas, where she would build a life rooted in family, hard work, and community.
Alongside her beloved husband, Phillip Fung Sr., Ann owned and operated J & P Grocery in Hughes for many years until their retirement in 1999. The store was more than a business, it was a gathering place, a reflection of Ann herself. She never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with her fiery spirit, honesty, and unmistakable warmth.
Ann was known for being direct, but always in a loving and caring way. She had a contagious spirit and a heart big enough for everyone she met. She found joy in vegetable gardening and canning, took great pride in cooking for her family, and showed her love most clearly through food, laughter, and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Phillip Fung Sr., her son William Fung, and her parents Frank Chu-Yang and Mary Lum.
Ann leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughter Angela Ng and husband Steve; her son Phillip Fung Jr. and his wife Brenda; her grandchildren Ethan Fung and Anna Fung, who were the light of her life; her brothers Harry Chu-Yang and wife Louise, and Mitchell Chu-Yang; her sister Helen Chu-Yang; her nephew Jon Chu-Yang; and her nieces Sandi Shake and Melinda Viva.
Ann Marie Fung will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, loyal friend, and a woman whose strength, kindness, and vibrant spirit touched all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply and the countless lives she brightened simply by being herself.

In sadness we take comfort by cherishing the times of our youth in Trinidad and the few times of visiting in Hughes. Love and peace to the family.

Our prayers are with the family during this difficult time. We enjoyed knowing the aging family for many years. May God bless each of you.
Sincerely,
Cliff and Lynda Wise
