Brenda Kay Smith

of Marshall, AR

December 29, 1969 - December 27, 2025

Brenda Kay Smith, age 55 of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this earthly life on Saturday, December 27th, 2025 with family and friends by her side. She was born in Harrison, Arkansas on December 29th, 1969 to Louie Anthony Thomas and Wanda Sue Treece Thomas.

Brenda worked for thirty plus years for the Searcy County School District. She began her career as a Special Education aide and bus driver. She went on to get her teaching degree and taught 7th and 8th grade math. Brenda loved teaching and she loved kids. She treated her students as her own. She was a giver. She found great joy in giving to others, even before her own needs. Brenda was a Christian with a deep faith in her Lord. She attended the Cowboy Church in Damascus when she was able. She loved animals and enjoyed caring for her horses and her dogs. Brenda's greatest achievement was being a mom and Nana. Her favorite pastime was just being at home, spending time with Mike, her sons, grandkids and all of her precious family. Her generous, caring nature and her love will be greatly missed by those who knew her best.

Survivors include her sons, Anthony Patterson (Gina) of Marshall and Michael Patterson (Jessica Scarborough) of Lakeview; grandkids, Brexleigh Patterson, Ashlyn Hudspeth, Hastin Davis, Emery Patterson and McKynlee Patterson; one sister, Mary Rogers (Shannon) of Marshall; her special friend and partner, Mike Curtis of Marshall; nieces, Maggie Holland of Huntsville, Emily Meier of Marshall and Ashley McCloud of Bellefonte; and several great nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will also mourn her passing.

Brenda is preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Wanda Thomas; and one brother, Anthony Wayne Thomas.

Memorial services for Brenda will be 2:00 PM Monday, January 12th, 2026 at the Marshall High School Gymnasium with Bro. Jeff Decker and her family officiating. The family invites guest to wear the color purple in support of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness. A private family burial will be at Silver Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Brenda Smith scholarship fund at Bank 1889.

Brenda's smile could light up a room. I always looked for her, when I entered DRCC(Damascus Road Cowboy Church), on Sunday mornings. Her hug and smile brightened my day. She was friendly, warm and caring. She will be missed. I'm sure her warm smile is even brighter in heaven!
