Ravenel Morrison Horton, age 97, of Harrison, Arkansas, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison. On February 28, 1946, Ravenel married Silas A. Horton, and together they shared nearly sixty years of marriage until his passing on April 19, 2006. As a devoted Army wife, Ravenel faithfully supported her husband throughout his military career, making homes in Aschaffenburg and Illesheim, Germany; Fort Riley, Kansas; Altus, Oklahoma; and Fort Hood, Texas. Following her husband's death, she returned to the Harrison area, where she remained until her passing.
She is survived by her children, Joan E. Hendrix of Indiana and Nickie B. J. Horton of Arkansas; her grandchildren, Lisa Hendrix Boyland of Indiana, Amy Hendrix of Florida, Jennifer Driver of Texas, and Jeffery Horton of Texas; her great-grandchildren, Kayla Boyland Davenport, Haley Boyland Hare, and Chloe Boyland of Indiana; Bailee, Brinklee, Bellamie, and Brady Driver of Texas; Alexa Horton of Missouri; and Ashlyn Horton of Illinois; and her great-great-grandchildren, Aria Davenport and Julian, Evelyn, and Cameron Hare of Indiana. She is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends she made across the country during her family's years of military service.
Ravenel was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Eve Morrison; her husband, First Sergeant (Ret.) Silas A. ''Nick'' Horton; her son, Barry Steven Horton; her grandson, Joey Michael Hendrix; four brothers, Daryl, Fletcher, Howard, and Duard; and three sisters, Sibyl, Maxine, and Ovaline. In her youth, Ravenel and her sisters sang together in church, nurturing a lifelong love of music that she passed on to both of her sons, who enjoyed playing the guitar. She was a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star and held a deep and abiding concern for the welfare of veterans.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Roller-Coffman Chapel in Marshall, Arkansas. Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
