Colonel James Arthur Lovell Sr. (Jim/Sonny), age 88, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on December 23, 1936, in Wynne, Arkansas, Jim lived a life defined by service, dedication, and quiet strength.

Jim, was the beloved son of the late Lucy Lee Lovell and Arthur Lovell. He graduated from Earle High School and Arkansas State University and a Master of Business Administration from the Babson Institute.

A proud veteran, Jim honorably served 30 years in the United States Army. His distinguished military career included assignments throughout the United States and overseas in Germany, Vietnam, Korea and Panama. His final assignment was Deputy Commander of the Defense Depot in Memphis, Tennessee. He retired with the rank of Colonel, having earned the respect of those he served alongside through steady leadership, professionalism, and an unwavering sense of duty, values that remained central to his life.

He is survived by his daughter, Melanie Lovell, and his son, James Arthur Lovell Jr. he is also survived by his brother, Larry Glen Lovell, along with many extended family members.

A visitation will be held Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm. Graveside service and military honors will be held on December 27, 2025, at 1:00pm at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his honor to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, the Memphis Mission and/or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
