July 5, 1923 - December 5, 2025
Geraldine Aline Reid Turner went to be with her Lord on December 5, 2025, at the age of 102. She was born into a family of accountants, educators, and business owners on July 5, 1923. The Reid family trained horses and farmed tobacco in Murray, Kentucky before moving to Conway in the late 1800s.
Aline's early education began at the Educational Training School at Arkansas State Teachers College, where she was mentored by her cousin, Norwood Moses, the first statewide reading specialist. She later attended Conway Public Schools, excelling in academics and athletics through her graduation in 1941. Following high school, she attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to become a Certified Dental Assistant. Her career began at the VA Hospital in North Little Rock, followed by many years with Dr. Jim Flannigan of Conway. She went on to serve as president of the Arkansas Dental Assistants Association, where she lobbied for educational certification requirements.
On June 19, 1942, Aline married James E. Turner of Havana. James served as a bombardier in the U.S. Air Force and later studied engineering at Arkansas State Teachers College. They both enjoyed the many years of his long career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Turners raised a son, James (Jim) E. Turner Jr., and a daughter, Brenda G. Turner, in a Godly home full of love, happiness, friendship, good food, and warm conversation. They instilled in their children the importance of family, education, good friends, and hard work.
James and Aline worked tirelessly as members of Second Baptist Church in Conway, where Aline served as a Sunday School teacher and faithful supporter of the church. She was also one of the first Girl Scout and Brownie Scout leaders in Conway an energetic, blue-eyed brunette guided by strong Christian faith and family values. She had a precious soul.
Aline enjoyed growing beautiful flowers and took great pride in her yard year-round. She was a wonderful cook who always prepared enough for friends who frequently dropped in. Gifted with hospitality, she kept a ready supply of cards for her frequent letters to family and friends. Aline had a special ability to make things work better and easier at work, at home, at school, at church, and beyond. She brought comfort, joy, and warmth everywhere she went. Her life reflected the presence of God. Throughout her long life, she served others and always put people first.
Aline was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Turner Sr.; her grandmother, Luna Walston; her parents, Allen Reid and Sally Norwood Reid; brothers, J.W. Reid, Billy Don Reid, and Merle Cole; three nephews, Joe Reid, Brian Whal, and Ricky Reid.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Turner, and her son, Jim (Carolyn); three grandchildren: Eric Turner, Jammy Turner (Laura), and Julie Strange (Steve); seven great-grandchildren: Layne Turner (Chandler), Landon Turner (Callie), Jake Turner, Avery Turner, Jet Maxey, Adisyn Turner, and Hudson Turner; and one great-great-granddaughter, Kennedy Jane Turner. She is also survived by two nieces, Debra Reid and Pat Cole Spraggins, and nephews Bill Reid (Elaine) and Johnny Cole.
Though Aline's body was failing, her mind remained sharp as a tack. Her memory served her well throughout her long life, and her soul is now forever in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was caring, loving, and always fun to be around. She will be deeply missed by all.
