of Parkin, AR
March 15, 1940 - November 30, 2025
James Louis Counce, 85, of parkin, Arkansas passed away at his home on November 30, 2025. He was born in Selmer, Tennessee on March 15, 1940 to parents Marvin and Oline Counce.
Later in life James moved to Marked Tree, Arkansas whereas fate would have it, one sunny day as he drove down the street at the age 24, he would look over to see a young lady named Veona Keck walking along the sidewalk. He stopped and asked her for a date, but she refused as she kept walking. Only a few days later their paths would cross again and this time she said yes. After only a little over a week and that first date to the drive-in movie show located in Payneway, Arkansas, they were married and embarked upon a 61-year adventure together until God called him home.
James was well known throughout his community for the love and support he showed animals and was a huge supporter of local shelters. During the spring and early summer months, James could be found at his produce stand better known to all in the area as Counce's Corner. He will be missed by many friends and people he may have never even known personally due to his generosity.
James is survived by his loving wife, Veona; two sons, Jamie (Tracy) and Frankie (Jennifer) Counce; two grandsons, Jamie Lee and David Allen Counce; three Great Grandsons, Caleb, Nathan and Raylan Counce and many step grandchildren, Nick, Trace, Jordan, Jackson and Taylor as well as step great grandchildren, Gabriella, Cache, Autumn, Jasper, Delilah, Garrett, Jackson, Ashton, Kaiden, Harland III and Melanie. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Carl and Donald and his sister, Linda Counce Harlow.
Both Visitation and Service will be held at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis with Visitation beginning at 11:00AM and Service at 12:00PM on Friday, December 5, 2025. Burial will take place at 2:00PM at Parkin Cemetery.

Veona May, we are so very sorry for your loss. Your house was where I was born and grew up. Mother and Dad, Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Thompson, had twelve children me being the only one born in the house that my dad had built in 1943. Our prayers are with you and your family and only pray that your loss and beliefs will be of shelter to you doing these very sad days ahead. We cherish all the memories and time God gave us with our loved ones and those wonderful years of memories will help you to accept and understand that our time here is so precious. May God bless you and your family.
