Mrs. Dovie Jean Washington Dismuke on August 26, 1934 in College Station, Arkansas, a radiant light entered the world. Dovie Jean Washington was born to the late Eartha Lee Brown Washington and William Wesley Washington.
At the tender age of thirteen, Dovie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in College Station, Arkansas. From that sacred moment, her life became a living testament of faith, service and steadfast devotion. Even as her physical strength waned, her spirit remained unshakable, anchored in the promises of God and fortified by unwavering belief. She faithfully served her church family in many capacities, lending her hands and heart to the Finance Ministry, Pastoral Anniversary Committee and the Little Rock City Mission. Her service was not simply an obligation; it was her divine calling.
A proud graduate of Wrightsville High School Class of 1952, Dovie cherished her alma mater and remained an active participant in class reunions. She delighted in reconnecting with lifelong friends, sharing laughter, memories and the joy of fellowship.
Professionally, Dovie exemplified excellence, grace and integrity. Her career began at Kellwood, where she built a foundation of diligence and respect. She later continued her service with JCPenney before joining the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration - Office of Child Support Enforcement. After a distinguished tenure marked by compassion and dedication, she retired in 1997, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, humility and care that inspired everyone who worked alongside her.
On May 23, 1954, Dovie joined hands and hearts with the love of her life, Charles H. Dismuke. Their union was one of enduring affection, mutual respect and shared faith. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter and devotion to family, creating an unbreakable bond that stood the test of time.
Beyond her faith and family, Dovie was a cherished presence within her community, gracious, poised and deeply engaged. She was a proud member of The Elegant Ladies of Little Rock and The Non Parrels Social Club, organizations that reflected her love of fellowship, refinement and service. Wherever she went, Dovie carried herself with grace, warmth and quiet strength that left a lasting impression on all who met her.
Her legacy continues through those who loved her most: her devoted husband, Charles H. Dismuke; three cherished daughters, Cynthia Burkhalter (the late Kenneth P. Burkhalter), Hilda Dismuke Canada (Deacon Gerald G. Canada) and Reverend Dr. Linda Dismuke Rawlins (Reverend Kenneth E. Rawlins); her beloved grandchildren, Orlando ''Lonnie'' Burkhalter, Kennetha Newman, Christopher Dismuke and Jonathan Dismuke; her treasured great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her later years; her dear sister, Doris Brown and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends whose lives she touched with her grace and compassion.
On October 23, 2025, Dovie peacefully transitioned from her earthly home to her eternal rest, joining the heavenly host and her loved ones who preceded her in glory, including her parents, her beloved aunt, Golina Goins and her precious daughter, Karen Dismuke.
Though her presence will be deeply missed, her light will forever shine in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Her faith was her foundation, her family, her joy and her love everlasting.
