of Marion, AR
November 10, 1937 - October 21, 2025
Harry Eugene ''Gene'' Ward of Marion, Arkansas, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering faith. Born on November 10, 1937, in Zent, Arkansas, Gene was the son of Harry Benjamin Ward and Ethel Simpson Ward. He departed his earthly home in Marion, Arkansas on October 21, 2025, at the age of 87.
On December 11, 1960, Gene married the love of his life, Stella Lee Sullivan, in Brinkley, Arkansas and they raised two daughters and together, they shared 65 joyful years of marriage, building a life rooted in devotion to family, community, and God. He would do anything for his Mrs. Stella and his girls.
Gene dedicated his career to serving farmers, working with International Harvester and later retiring from John Deere in Marion. Known for his ethical nature and tireless work ethic, he was respected by all who knew him. He also served his country with pride in the National Guard for nine years.
A man of deep faith, Gene was a deacon emeritus at First Baptist Church in West Memphis. He found joy in singing the tenor part in old hymns and serving others through Jesus. His jovial character showed he could quickly spin a yarn, pull a joke, and make even the grumpiest person smile.
Gene had a mind like an engineer, able to fix almost anything, and a heart full of warmth. He was a meticulous yard man, an avid toy tractor collector, and a passionate Razorback fan. He loved traveling with family, especially to live music venues in Mountain View and Branson, where his laughter and enthusiasm were always contagious.
Gene was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Lajean Wild; his parents; brothers Howard, Verdie, and Leroy Ward; and sisters Francis Walker and Nancy Henard.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Stella Ward of Marion; daughter Carol (Ricky) Burke and grandson Douglas Burke of Melbourne, Arkansas; son-in-law Johnny Wild of Branson, Missouri; brothers Rayford, Dwight, Leon, Benny, Jerry, and Chris Ward; sister Brenda Flynn; and many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, Shake Shack companions, and dear friends.
Gene's life was a testament to kindness, humor, and faith. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He always ended each day with a warm, ''Good night, God bless and love you!'' Gene's greatest wish was for everyone to know that trusting Jesus is the way to Heaven.
A Memorial Service will be held graveside at a later date.
Prayers for the family! I truly enjoyed working with Mr. Gene at John Deere.
