of West Memphis, AR
June 10, 1940 - October 18, 2025
Lynda Louise Rowell Wright, 85, of West Memphis, Arkansas entered her Heavenly home on October 18, 2025 after courageously battling Alzheimer's disease.
She was born on June 10, 1940 in Ripley, Mississippi to the late Lyman and Mary Louise (Lockhart) Rowell. Lynda was raised in Ripley, where she learned the value of hard work and determination milking cows every morning before heading to school. This was one of her favorite stories to share with her grandchildren.
A bright and ambitious student, Lynda graduated from high school at just 16 years old. Only a few weeks later, she faced heartbreak when her father, Lyman, passed away after his battle with cancer. Searching for a new beginning, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee where she lived in a boarding house with other young women chasing their dreams. Lynda attended secretarial school and began working for a downtown business. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Robert Wright, beginning a love story that would last a lifetime.
They married in 1962 and began their lives together. Robert became a banker and Lynda worked as a secretary until they adopted their first child, Suzanne, in 1968. A few years later, they welcomed their son, Allen. Lynda eventually made her home in West Memphis, Arkansas where she built a life rooted in faith, family and community.
Together, she and Robert raised their children with kindness, strength and the unshakable belief in standing tall through life's challenges, grounded in their faith in Jesus Christ.
Lynda was known for her quick wit, nurturing spirit and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. Whether she was cooking Sunday dinner, catching up on the phone or sharing stories from her Mississippi roots, she filled every space with warmth and laughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyman and Mary Rowell and her brothers, James Lockhart Rowell and Frank Lyman Rowell.
Lynda is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Robert Wright; her children, Suzanne Wright Houston (Bert) and Allen Wright (Summer); her grandchildren, Alex Thomas (Caleb), Ashtan Sieber (Casey), Tristam Wright and Henley Wright and her great-grandsons, Britton, Mason and Baylor, who all adored their Mimi. She is also survived by her sister, Gara Childs.
Visitation for Mrs. Wright will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of West Memphis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the First Baptist Church of West Memphis in her memory.
Though Alzheimer's may have taken her memories, it never took her spirit. Lynda lived a life filled with grace, laughter and love leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
