Sydney Griffey Oberle, 68, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born on Thursday, January 3, 1957, in Helena, Arkansas to the late John and Ernestine Griffey.
Sydney worked many jobs in her life. She worked for Doctor Charlie Chu for over ten years, worked for Merchant Farmers, was the co-owner for sixteen years of the video store and tanning center and was the Director of Fine Arts at Phillips County Community College until her retirement. Sydney enjoyed fishing, shopping and playing slot machines. The greatest joys in her life were her family, especially her two granddaughters.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of forty-six years, Alfred ''Bud'' Oberle; son, Derek Oberle (Lindsay) of Greenbrier, Arkansas; grandchildren, Charlee Anne and Camryn Blake Oberle; sisters, Marilyn Fitzgerald of Little Rock, Arkansas and Sylvia Kimsey (Don) of Smithville, Missouri; sister-in-law, Mary McDaniel (Mike) of Memphis, Tennessee; brother-in-law, William John Obele (Sandra) of England, Arkansas; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family would also like to give a special thanks to Stephanie Sandefer and Margaret Ables for helping Sydney get to and from doctors' appointments.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Ernestine Griffey; sister, Sybil Finnie; two brothers-in-law, Bryan Fitzgerald and David Oberle.
A memorial service honoring the life of Sydney Griffey Oberle will be held at a later date.
