September 25, 1940 - October 4, 2025
Odis Roy Vickers, age 85, of Batesville, Arkansas (formerly of Marcella), passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4th at White River Medical Center.
Odis was born on September 25th, 1940 in Marcella, Arkansas to George Richard (Rich) and Addie Fortune Vickers. He grew up on the family farm where he learned the values of hard work, honesty and dedication that would guide him throughout his life. The rhythms of farm life; early mornings, long days and the satisfaction of a job well done, shaped the man he would become.
For many years, Odis worked in several businesses in California and in Little Rock. He then worked as a delivery driver for Kramers Wholesale House and retired from Tobacco Sales in Jonesboro, AR. He worked hard supplying convenience stores throughout the region. He took pride in his work and was known for his reliability and friendly demeanor. He built lasting friendships on his routes and could always be counted on to deliver on time. He retired after many years of faithful service.
A lifelong bachelor, Odis lived life on his own terms. He was a man of simple pleasures such as: fishing, watching baseball, tinkering on farm equipment, visiting with family, playing Pitch and Horseshoes. Though he never married or had children of his own, he was a beloved uncle to his many nieces and nephews and cherished his role in their lives.
Odis was preceded in death by his parents, George Richard (Rich) and Addie Fortune Vickers; his infant sister; sister, Joan Vickers and sister-in-law, Elma Jean Vickers; his niece, Mary Ellen and his nephew, Wesley Vickers.
He is survived by his brothers, Gerald Vickers of Long Beach, California and Glen (Clarice) Vickers of Marcella, AR; his sister, Melba Vickers of Barling, AR and nieces, Tammy (Barry) Smith, Donna (Keith) Davis and Brenda (Chris) Lucsik and nephew, Mike (Christy) Vickers; great-nieces, Chaelann, Madison and Sydney; great-nephews, Bryan, Dakota, Canyon, Camyn, Hayden, Ethan, Gavin and Ogden; great, great-nephews, Rhyatt and Franklin; great, great niece, Rhenly and extended family members and dear friends who will miss his quiet strength and gentle presence.
Pallbearers are Keith Davis, Bryan Davis, Dakota Davis, Mike Vickers, Canyon Vickers, Camyn Vickers and Trell Trammell.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 7th followed by services at 11:00 AM at Roller Crouch Funeral Home Chapel in Mountain View, AR, with Pastor Will Thompson officiating.
Burial will follow at York Cemetery in Marcella, AR which is in the middle of the family farm Odis grew up on.
