Larry Lee Stone, age 84, of Bergman passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. He was born on December 11, 1940, the son of Carl and Amalia Stone in Wichita, Kansas. He was a first generation American citizen. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; his mother-in-law, Doris Saylors; his father-in-law, John Conway; his brother-in-law, Johnny Conway and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Larry graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City in 1958. He became a licensed social worker devoting over 35 years to alcohol and drug abuse recovery. Larry was the first director of OMART. He worked for substance abuse units for Baptist Health in Little Rock, old Riverview Hospital in Little Rock and was the director of the Restore Substance Abuse unit at St. Vincent's Hospital in Little Rock. He also worked for the 24 Club in Little Rock and Hilltop Nursing Home in Harrison. Larry celebrated his 50th sobriety birthday on June 11, 2025. Larry received several awards throughout the years and helped thousands of people get clean and sober.
Larry was a kind, sensitive and loving man. He married the love of his life, Vanna Sue, on December 2, 1977 and told her every day of their almost 48 years together that he loved her. Together they raised two children, Jason and April. Larry was a devoted, supportive, encouraging husband and father. Being an only child, he cherished his family. He loved God and believed Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior. Sue is comforted knowing who his Lord was. In 2012, the family adopted two fur babies, Duncan and Libby, dachshunds who made Larry their person.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Vanna Sue; his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Tammy Smith; his daughter, April Smith; his fur babies; three grandchildren; several brothers and sisters-in-law, especially Leo and Katie Saylors, who he was very close to and special cousins, Wayne and Neta Owen.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.
Interment was in Milum Cemetery, Lead Hill.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Larry's name to Three Wishes for Ruby or the Ozark Humane Society.
