Connie Jo Simpson

of Elizabethton, TN

October 8, 1960 - July 25, 2025

Connie Steele Simpson, age 64, of Elizabethton, Tennessee passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025 at the Center on Aging and Health in Erwin, Tennessee. Born on October 8, 1960 in Long Beach, California, Connie was the daughter of the late James Whayne Neal and Dorthy Jo Coles Neal. In addition to her parents, Connie was also preceded in death by her second husband, Mark Simpson.

Connie dedicated her life to education, shaping countless young lives with her creativity, compassion and commitment to helping them succeed. Her passion for the arts drew her to becoming a drama teacher, shaping the imagination of many young people. Connie also served as a principal at an alternative school, believing that every student deserved a second chance of learning and becoming the students Connie knew they could be. Connie was literally one of the greatest when it came to not only being an educator, but as a person who could relate to others, however they came.

Those left to remember Connie include two sons, Dylan Steele and Tim Steele; six grandchildren, Conner Alexander Steele, Keegan Gene Steele, Camron Clay Steele, OakLeigh Ray Haynes Littleton, Ainslee Beth Steele and Kerrigan Jo Steele and three brothers, Jeff (Tonya) Neal, Mike Neal and Jimmy Neal. Connie was also a special aunt to Brooke Parlier, Micheala Bier, Alexis Pearson, Michael Gross, Adam Neal, Andrew Neal, Eli Neal, Hadley Parlier, Hazel Parlier, Ella Price and Ava Price.

The family would like to especially thank Connie's special friend, Kristen O'Conner for the love and care given to Connie during her illness. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
