Memorial Tribute to Steve Baker
I and my wife Mary were shocked and saddened to hear that Steve had passed away. We had been friends a long time. Steve and I went to the same high school, although we did not have classes together because he was older. But, we were both part of the same church family, the White's Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, Louisiana. So we became good friends, despite the difference in ages. (He was about four years older) Later, when I and Mary were planning our wedding, it was a natural thing to ask Steve to be one of my groomsmen. It was one of the many things that made that day special, because our friend was part of the celebrations. Mary did not know him earlier, because she grew up in Arkansas. But, she and Steve became friends too, and he was our friend the rest of his life.
We didn't get to spend as much time with Steve as we would have liked in his later years. But, we made an effort at least once a year to spend a day with him and enjoy time together. I remember that he especially liked pizza and root beer. He also loved musicā"Christian music, classic rock, and classical. He didn't play an instrument, but he had a great music collection which he shared with us. We enjoyed listening together.
Steve was a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord Jesus with his whole heart. Whenever he had an opportunity and someone was willing to listen, Steve enjoyed talking to people about his Christian faith. And, as long as his health permitted, he regularly attended worship services at Robinson and Center Church of Christ in Conway, Arkansas, where he lived.
As he developed some health problems, Steve became a real role model of Christian endurance and cheerfulness. He never complained when he was not feeling well. Steve always had a smile for you when he was with you, no matter what. We were always impressed by that.
Another thing that we appreciated about Steve was that he was kind to and loved animals. For a number of years he had a little dog, a terrier named Bandit. They were inseparable. Bandit loved Steve in return. He enjoyed car rides with Steve too.
We will miss our friend and Christian brother Steve very much. But, we are grateful for the relationship we shared. Most of all, we are grateful he is safe in the arms of Jesus. We look forward to renewing our friendship and fellowship with him in eternity, in heaven.
We love you, Steve, and are proud to have known you!
With Christian love,
Dewayne and Mary Dulaney
I am saddened to hear that my sweet cousin, Steve, has passed away. He always had a smile for everyone. Rest in peace!
