Elton Smith, age 87, of Marshall, Arkansas passed peacefully to his heavenly home on July 20, 2025 surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Dongola, Arkansas on February 12, 1938 to Buel and Vada Smith. Elton married Dolores White on July 7, 1962 in St. Joe, AR.; they were married for 8 years before her passing in 1970. Elton was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.
Elton was raised and lived in the Dongola community most of his life. He attended school at Dongola, Snowball and Marshall, graduating from Marshall High School in 1956. He served in the Army National Guard. In his early years he worked for Levi Strauss Company and KC Meat Company. In 1972, he began his bulldozing career before establishing Smith & Steen Custom Bulldozing with Phil Steen. Elton and Phil dozed together for over 30 years. His passion was farming and raising cattle. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren. His hard work, dedication and presence will be greatly missed.
Surviving and carrying on his memory are one daughter, DeAnna Smith of Russellville; two sons, James Smith and wife, Barbara of Fayetteville; Nick Smith and wife, Kathy of Snowball; Grandchildren, Jason Smith (Rachel), Jaret Smith (Rene), Opal Agafia Kurilla (Michael), Guthrie Boyd (Susan), Hannah Smith and Lucas Smith; Great Grandchildren, Kayden, Carter, Noah, Lane, Kyler and Ethan Smith and a host of family and friends who will mourn his passing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Buel & Vada Smith; his wife, Dolores Smith and two brothers, Ardith Smith and John Dale Smith.
Funeral services for Elton will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Roller-Coffman Chapel in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. Jackie Smithson and Bro. Sam Horton officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 till 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 22, 2025 in the Chapel. Burial will be in Dongola Cemetery near Marshall where Elton will be laid to rest. Bearers will be his nephews, Phillip Smith, Jeff Smith, Steve Smith, Brock Smith and Jerry Dale Smith and John Steen.

Elton, was a good guy and friend to my dad, Alfred Steen. They went together at the same Elementary thru 8th grade and
Snowball High School with Ardith Smith. His family has my condolences and prayers. Do not erase this condolences

Prayers of comfort for family and friends
I have known Eldon Smith all my life. Many memories throughout the years e the some of the fondest involved Eldon. The many trips to deer camp, and being with him was an absolute highlight memory. Rest in peace Eldon and blessings on the family.

Elton was one special man, I don't think I ever saw him mad. I know the family will miss him greatly. I'm in Alaska so I'm so sorry I can't make it to the services but will be in my thoughts and prayers.
