of Savannah, TN
June 6, 1964 - July 2, 2025
Melissa Kay Hoffman of Savannah, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at the age of 61 at Jackson Madison Hospital. She was born June 6, 1964 in Memphis, Tennessee to parents, Clifton Lee and Barbara Gay West. Melissa grew up in Memphis TN, where she graduated from Central High School. She would later find the love of her life, David Hoffman, while working together. When David joined the military, Melissa took on the primary role of caring for her family, raising their three children, Daniel, Julie and Brian. Her family was her passion, always driving her children to school, work, band practices and concerts. She was always on the move fulfilling the needs and wants of a busy family.
In her free time Melissa loved tv shows like M.A.S.H., E.R. and Big Brother. If you were traveling, she always loved a keychain and a story from your travels. She loved Facebook to keep up with friends and family and to beat every level possible on Candy Crush. She loved NFL football, always rooting for the Cowboys, even though Dave is a strong Steelers supporter. She was always the #1 fan for countless family music nights, cheering, singing and clapping along.
In her younger years she loved gardening and was a big advocate for gnomes. She loved animals and cared for countless outdoor cats over the years no matter how many may have shown up on her porch. Melissa had an ever-welcoming "Air" that always shined through, opening her door and her heart to the friends and spouses of her children.
In 2023, Melissa and David moved to Savannah, TN to enjoy a newfound peace away from the bustle of city-life in Memphis. Over the last two years, they made many new friends and neighbors, thoroughly enjoying runs to the local donut shop, trips over the river and the wonderful Christmas decorations in town during the holiday season.
Melissa is preceded by her father, Clifton Lee West; mother, Barbara Gay West and her two brothers, George William Burks, Jr. and Johnny Lee West.
Melissa will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 42 years, David Kenneth Hoffman; their oldest son, Daniel Kenneth Hoffman (Devin); daughter, Julie Elizabeth Rider (Greg) and youngest son, Brian Clifton Hoffman (Kerrie). She will also be deeply missed by her grandson, Lincoln Rider.
Melissa was known for her love of animals, housing dozens of pets throughout her life, as such the family requests that if you do not wish to send flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Animal Doctor of Selmer (825 E Poplar Ave, Selmer, TN 38375).
