Franklin Harvey Washburn, affectionately known as Frank, of Hot Springs, Arkansas passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025 surrounded by his loving daughter and sister. Born on December 26, 1939 in Little Rock, Arkansas, he was the cherished son of Franklin Dean and Jewel Washburn.

Frank shared 47 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Lyda Washburn. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around family, music, faith and community. One of their greatest shared joys was attending church together, where they found strength, purpose and lasting friendships.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Frank dedicated his professional life to music education, serving as the band director at both West Memphis High School and John L. McClellan High School in Little Rock. His dedication and passion left a lasting impression on generations of students who were inspired by his talent and leadership.

Following his retirement from teaching, Frank found a new creative outlet in photography. He established Washburn Photography in Little Rock and took great pride in capturing the special moments of weddings, families and milestones - many involving former students. His artistry and keen eye earned him numerous awards in local and regional photography competitions.

Frank remained deeply connected to the music world throughout his life. He performed with the Natural State Brass Band, the Hot Springs Concert Band and the North Little Rock Concert Band. He also continued shaping young minds as a substitute teacher in local schools, including Bethel, Bryant and Benton. His commitment to music extended into professional service as a founding member and past president of the Arkansas Bandmasters Association and a member of Phi Beta Mu. He was also actively involved in the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association (ASBOA).

In addition to his contributions to music, Frank made a significant impact in the photography community. He was a longtime member of the Arkansas Professional Photographers Association, serving as president from 1993 to 1994. In 1993, he was honored with the National Award from the Professional Photographers of America. He also served as executive director of the Professional Photographers of the Ozarks.

Frank was a devoted member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church in Little Rock, where he nurtured lifelong friendships and a deep personal faith.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lyda Washburn and his grandson, Tyler Cockerham.

Frank leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity and service. Those who will continue to cherish his memory include his daughter, Debbie Cockerham (Tim) of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Brett Cockerham (Heather) of Huntersville, North Carolina and Nicole Crate of Salisbury, North Carolina and great-granddaughter, Delaney Crate. He is also survived by his siblings, Bill Washburn (Janelle) of Post Falls, ID, Steve Washburn (Linda) of Palmview, TX, Buddy Washburn (Barbara) of Nixa, MO and Cissy Huggs of Hot Springs, AR; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, former students and dear friends.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Tia Wells and the caring staff at Country Club Village, Meeka Smith and her team at Right at Home, as well as Elite Hospice and Arkansas Hospice. Your compassion brought great comfort and dignity to Frank's final days. Debbie and her family are forever grateful.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025 followed by a celebration of Frank's life at 11:00 a.m. at Roller-Alcoa Funeral Home, 6700 Alcoa Road, Benton, AR. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander.
