Cleta Faye Pressley Smothers, 76, of Paris, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025 in Paris surrounded by her family. She was born on October 14, 1948 in Edmond, Oklahoma to her parents, James Thomas and Addielene (Butler) Smothers.
Cleta graduated from McNeil High School in South Arkansas where she was a standout basketball player. She worked for several years at Stark Manufacturing in Paris and travelled with the Bill Hames Show up until her retirement. She was an active member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she loved to volunteer in several different types of ministries but always had a passion for Vacation Bible School. She was always a devout Christian and loved to read her bible, on the night of August 17, 2017 she spoke to God while lying in her bed during a storm and asked God to save her soul. Her happiest days were spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Billy Smothers and his wife Betty Jean and three sisters, Ethel Baker and her husband, Buddy, Linda Sue Howard and Betty Fern Stone.
She is survived by her two daughters, Marita Cooper of Paris and Shelley Potts and husband, Harold of Paris; one sister, Mary Ann Sago of Hickory, Oklahoma; one brother, O.D. Smothers and wife, Terry of Conway; three grandchildren, Marcus Potts, J.P. Potts and Cephas Cooper and five great grandchildren, Riley Belle Potts, Bentley Potts, Ryker Potts, Lakelynn Potts and Bayleigh Potts.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Paris officiated by Rev. Jeremy Jones. The family will have a time of visitation directly following the memorial service. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.

Was very sorry and sad to hear of Cleta's passing. She was a wonderful woman, great mom, grandmother and woman. She is now dancing on the streets of gold. Have been praying for the family and my son, Cephas, at the passing of his grandma. She will be missed but always treasured in our hearts with her memories.

I am so saddened and shocked to hear of Cleta's passing. I had just visited with her in the rehab at Paris on Wednesday. I loved our visit, her best friend was visiting with her as well, I learned how they met, such a sweet story. My thoughts are with your family during the sad time.
