Ramona Sitz

of Conway, AR

March 3, 1940 - June 9, 2025

Ramona Sitz, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on Monday June 9, 2025. She was born on March 3, 1940, to the late Charles (WWII Vet) and Martha Stacy in Beattyville Kentucky.
Ramona is survived by her husband Anthony Sitz, her 4 sons and a daughter: David, Kenny, Debbie, Curtis and Morris (Rock), her daughter-in-law Rachel, 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Along with those other ''kids'' that became additional sons or grandsons, Jinnings, ''My'' David, Michael, Eric, Chris, Aaron and many others who became family.
Ramona was raised by her mother on a farm in Eastern Kentucky. She had an undergraduate degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a graduate degree from the University of Kentucky. She never stopped being a University of Kentucky Wild Cat fan. When Ramona and Anthony moved to Arkansas in the early 80's. Ramona continued what she started in Kentucky, to be an active volunteer with the Boys Scouts of America (BSA). She was so involved that over the years she moved through the ranks of BSA leadership in the local units, district and council level positions. Along the way receiving recognition with national awards: Silver Beaver Award, Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor, Order of the Arrow Centurion Award, Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award and she was a James E. West Fellow.
One of her many passions was cooking and she cooked many meals for her immediate family as well as her extended BSA family over the years. There were always lots of leftovers around after she cooked as she could never figure out how to cook for less than 20! Scout camp did not seem the same if she was not in the kitchen! As her health declined, her biggest regret was not being able to be in the kitchen. We will all miss her cooking.
Ramona went to work at the University of Central Arkansas as soon as she arrived in Conway, serving in the division of Student Affairs and the Political Science Department. She was diligent in supporting those around her whether they were her coworkers or her superiors, and numerous students that may just happen to wander into her office. All were always made welcome.
The quote from Albert Pike truly sums up Ramona.
''What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others, and the world remains and is immortal.''
Her legacy and passion for helping others, lives on in her husband, children, grandchildren and her extended family.
The family will host a celebration of her life later in the year. Details will follow closer to the time.

Our first "official" Cub Scout outing, "Family Camp" was made so much better by Ramona's help and guidance. She was part of the host crew and came to our rescue and gave sound advice to make a difficult camp outing (due to weather) a wonderful and memorable experience. She encouraged me to get more involved with council and district projects. She was always available with helpful feedback and was ever ready to answer questions. I probably wouldn't have gotten involved as I did with the District, Order of the Arrow and the Council without her encouragement. It was also Ramona who validated my concerns when I made the difficult decision to focus my support and work at the troop level only. I am truly changed because of her friendship and am eternally grateful. Yours in Scouting, Helena Schulze Cub & Troop 329, Troop 30.

Romana was one of a kind. I worked with Romana for perhaps 10 or 12 years at the University of Central Arkansas. She was funny, confident, energetic, positive, caring, and always helped our students with any issues they may have. She has left a lasting legacy. God Speed Ramona!
