Betty Sue Stovall, 89, of Scranton, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025 in Charleston.
Betty was born July 22, 1935 in Scranton, Arkansas to her parents, Clyde Roper and Ruby (Denton) Roper. She was a homemaker and helped work on the poultry and cattle farm. She was a lifelong member of Johnson Freewill Baptist Church, where she loved to worship and honor God. She enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and her flower garden. Her favorite moments came when she would cook deer steaks with biscuits and gravy for the family or being able to go trout fishing on the White River. Time with her family was a very cherished time for her.
She is preceded in death by her previously mentioned parents, her husband of fifty nine years, John Stovall, Jr. and her two brothers, Darrell Roper and Ottis Roper.
She is survived by her son, Tom Stovall and wife, Connie of Scranton, Arkansas; her daughter, Rita Athey and husband, Paul of Scranton, Arkansas; a brother, Ronnie Roper and wife, Becky of Charleston, Arkansas; a sister, Barbara Koenigseder of Fort Smith, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Chris Stovall and wife, Becky of Charleston, Arkansas and Erin Stovall of Scranton, Arkansas; eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several other family members and friends.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Roller Funeral Home in Paris.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Johnson Freewill Baptist Church near Scranton with burial to follow at Wares Chapel Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements and services are under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ellison Stovall, Chris Stovall, Mark Koenigseder, Paul Coleman, Michael Johnson and Lance Fox.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Elijah Stovall and Jeff Boland.
Wendy and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. We will be praying for you and the family during this difficult time.
Ms. Betty is treading lightly, now where the angels tread.
She worked hard, loved the Lord and her church, and loved her family (beyond measure). I thank the Lord,He let me come into her and Br. Junior's life, and got to be their pastor, for many years.
