Elizabeth Ann Brown

of Little Rock, AR

August 19, 1927 - May 25, 2025

Elizabeth Ann Brown, née Humphreys, 97, widow of James C. Brown, passed away peacefully at Good Shepherd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Little Rock, Arkansas on Sunday, May 25, 2025. She was born August 19, 1927 in Frederickstown, Missouri to Mattie Orto Coffin Humphreys and Hugh Harrison Humphreys. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and her granddaughter, Kelly Leann Padgett.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Bizon (John) of Spring Branch, Texas and Susan Padgett (Alan) of Maumelle, Arkansas. Also, three grandchildren, Chris Padgett, Lesley Miller (Jeff) and Allison Simmons (Keith) and five great grandchildren, Jack, Marshall, Paige, Will and Anna. She grew up in Pine Bluff, Arkansas where she had many childhood friends. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1945 and attended the University of Arkansas where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Liz, as she was known, lived in Malvern for many years and eventually settled in the Diamondhead community in Hot Springs and became very active in the First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the P. E. O. Sisterhood, as well as many social and civic organizations. Liz loved playing bridge and was an excellent cook and especially found her flair in home decorating as she filled her home year round with bright colors, gardenias and the aroma of home cooking. She loved preparing holiday dinners for her family and delighted in watching her grandchildren open Christmas gifts.

Mrs. Brown's family would like to thank all the staff at Good Shepherd for the love and care given to her during her stay there. Especially those days during Covid when everyone was just trying to make it through each day. Mrs. Brown will be cremated and the family will celebrate her life at a later date.

FAVORITE MEMORIES FROM HER GRANDCHILDREN

Dear Memaw, I remember every summer there was something special we would do. Golf lessons, fishing (you had to put the cricket on my hook). One Easter, you had bunny costumes made just for us. We hid eggs at the playground in Diamondhead for the neighborhood kids to find. I always thought it was funny that you kept the microwave in the garage. You ONLY used it for popping corn! You took me to Oaklawn and would give me $20 and that was for 10 races $2 minimum bet. I was 21 and asked you for a beer and you said ''I don't know what I think about you drinking.'' You took Kelly and me to Magic Springs and the Zoo and would make us a picnic lunch. I'm very fortunate in the grandmother department. I'm so proud to be your grandson. We had so many adventures together. So many good memories!
Love, Chris

Dear Memaw, I remember how you let us play dress up in your fancy clothes and put on silly skits for the family. I loved all the fun sleepovers at your house. We would get dressed up, you would let me wear your perfume and we would go to our favorite restaurant and order the biggest slice of cheesecake they had. I remember how you would always take us to Magic Springs and all-day adventures in downtown Hot Springs. I remember the moment you met each of our babies for the first time and sang them the same lullaby you sang to us as children. I loved listening to you tell stories of your childhood and all the mischief you got into as a young girl. I loved listening to you laugh out loud thinking of your adventures with your friends. I loved Christmas dinners at your house. I especially remember the Christmas you came to visit us in Baltimore and insisted on cooking for the entire family. I still have your grocery shopping list from that year and still think of you teaching me how to make some of your most famous recipes.
Love, Lesley

Dear Memaw, I remember sitting with you at your makeup table in the mornings and the classic wisdom that you shared with me, ''A little paint on the barn never hurt.'' I remember eating lunch with you at the 19th Hole. You had so many friends there were never enough chairs at our table for all of them.
Love, Allison

Mrs. Brown accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She loved her church, her family and her many friends. She will forever be missed.
