of Little Rock, AR
October 4, 1939 - November 26, 2024
Judith Locker Buchanan passed away on November 26, 2024 at the age of 85. Born on October 4, 1939 in Chicago, Judy's family moved to West Helena when she was six and it was her beloved home until she moved to Little Rock in 2018 and became a resident of Parkway Village, first in the assisted living home and later in the health center.
The family is grateful to the staff at Parkway Village who tenderly cared for her over the last six and a half years. The family also extends its heartfelt thanks to Judy's special friend, Carolyn Turner, who helped Judy attend Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church by television each week. The hymns, creeds and litany remained with Judy through her illness and brought her comfort and assurance.
Judy was predeceased by her parents, Oscar and Helen Locker; her husband, Charlie; her son, Richard Scott Buchanan and her sister, Marilyn Waddell. She is survived by her grandsons, Preston Locker Buchanan and Brett Malone Buchanan; her daughter-in-law, Carolyn; her brother-in-law, Walter Buchanan; her niece, Barbara (Chuck) Culver and her nephews, Mike (Anne) Waddell and Bill (Patty) Waddell.
Judy's legacy is her humility, warmth and quick smile that stayed with her always and encouraged her friends and family. Even as her memory faded, she would often fondly reflect the truth of Galatians 5:6 in describing her cherished church home, the West Helena United Methodist Church: ''We loved each other and took care of each other, and that's what counts.''
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 on Saturday, November 30th at Roller Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena. The funeral service will immediately follow at Roller-Citizens. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery. Honoring Judy as pallbearers are Eddie Schieffler, Chuck Culver, Preston Buchanan, Brett Buchanan, Mike Waddell and Bill Waddell.
Memorials may be made to the West Helena United Methodist Church, 109 North Sixth Street, West Helena, AR 72390.

When I came to be the administrative assistant at the West Helena UMC I had the good fortune to meet Ms. Judy. She was such a wonderful, gracious and kind woman. I missed her when she moved to LR to be closer to family. I know that you are in the presence of the Lord now Ms. Judy, and that you, Mr. Charlie and all that have gone on before you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving reunion in heaven. Until we meet again dear friend.
I will cherish the times I spent with Judy during First Thursday Lunches at the Pillow-Thompson House and when she shopped at my store. Judy was a sweet, classy lady, who will be missed.
