Helen Jean Horton, age 90, of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this earthly life on Saturday, November 9th, 2024 at Baptist Health in Little Rock, Arkansas with her family by her side. She was born in the Bear Creek Community of Searcy County, Arkansas on March 1st, 1934 to Fred Columbus Cooper and Lena Maye Wright Cooper. Helen was married to Dorsey Horton for 56 years before his death in 2008.
Helen accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very young age. She was faithful to the Lord and her church and He was faithful to her, bringing her whole family into the circle. As a mighty prayer warrior, many were blessed to be on her prayer list. Her life journey was not always easy. She worked at MarBax and Flintrock Shirt Company in Marshall for many years to help support her family. As a 12 year old girl, she helped raise her three siblings after her mother became ill. Her love for her family was immeasurable. She loved to sing and listen to her very talented family play music. She was an excellent seamstress and created many wedding, prom and pageant dresses for many area residents. She also enjoyed quilting. Her quilts are displayed in many of her family's homes. Helen was a wonderful cook. She made the best chocolate rolls in Searcy County. She was also an avid Yahtzee player. She played with her sister, Norma every night over the phone. Helen's strong spirit and beautiful soul with be greatly missed by her precious family and many friends.
Survivors include her sons, Jimmy Dorsey Horton and wife, Debbie of Marshall and Donnie Horton and wife, Adalea of Marshall; her only daughter (and Pet, according to her brothers), Lisa Horton Stagg and husband, Paul of Little Rock; grandchildren, Jimmy Shawn Horton (Laura) of Marshall, Brandon Horton (Chasity) of Marshall, Niki Randall (Dustin) of Huntsville, AL, Joshua Horton (Sheena) of Ozark, MO, Caleb Horton (Sara) of Greenbrier, Jared Horton of Orlando, FL, Matt Stagg (Jessica) of Little Rock, Natalie Tschepikow (Ben) of Fayetteville and Savannah Schaller (Wade) of Dallas, TX; great grandchildren, Abigail Baker (Jacob), Isabelle Horton, Canaan Horton, Kaylie Horton, Lauren Horton, Megan Sutterfield (Colton), Aspen Randall, Andrew Horton, Gage Horton, Nash Horton, Gentry Horton, Carter Horton, Avery Horton, London Stagg, Sage Stagg, Lincoln Stagg, Hudson Tschepikow and Colt Tschepikow; great-great grandchildren, Lindley and Everley; siblings, Gorman Cooper and Norma Barger; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will also mourn her passing.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lena Cooper; her husband, Dorsey Horton; great-grandson, Joshua Cade Horton and brother, Leon Cooper.
Funeral services for Helen will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 12th, 2024 at the Assembly of God Church in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. Donnie Horton, Bro. Jared Horton and Bro. Shawn Horton officiating. Special music will be performed by Jared Horton, Brandon Horton, Shawn Horton, Whitney Sutterfield and Jeremy Nuckles. Visitation will be 6:00 till 8:00 PM Monday, November 11th, 2024 at Roller-Coffman Chapel in Marshall, Arkansas. Burial will be in Cypert Cemetery where Helen will be laid to rest beside her husband, Dorsey. Bearers will be her grandsons, Matt Stagg, Jared Horton, Caleb Horton, Josh Horton, Shawn Horton and Brandon Horton.

I was so saddened upon reading the obituary of Helen Jean Cooper Horton. As a child growing up in Marshall, I knew the Cooper family very well. Helen Jean was one of the 'big' girls that I admired. Her brothers were closer to my age. I will include the Cooper family in my prayers.
