Naomi Ruth Woodall

of Little Rock, AR

March 26, 1933 - April 16, 2024

Naomi Ruth Woodall passed into her Savior's arms on April 16, 2024 at the age of 91.

Naomi, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and faithful servant of God, was born on March 26, 1933 in Rocky Ford, Colorado to Sophia Langley Abbott and John Everett Abbott, a Baptist preacher. She was the youngest of four children.

Her family moved to Arkansas in 1943 and Naomi graduated from Benton High School in 1952. Following graduation, Naomi moved to Little Rock and began her career at Dun & Bradstreet. In 1955, she met the love of her life, David Henry Woodall Jr. The two were married on July 10, 1956 at Park Place Baptist Church in Little Rock, AR and together built a beautiful life.

Naomi loved being a mother and cherished the time she got to spend at home with her two daughters, Paula and Gaila, during their childhood. She was an amazing seamstress, making all of their clothes and an excellent cook. She loved gardening and decorating. She later worked for Arkansas Agriculture Extension Service, teaching nutrition to families in underserved communities in central Arkansas.

Naomi and David bought and built the Central Arkansas Roto-Rooter franchise in 1972. They were a great team. Following their success with Roto-Rooter, the couple bought 100 acres of land in Alexander, AR where they lived upon retirement, raising cattle and ostriches. She enjoyed hosting many church functions at the couple's farm including Easter egg hunts, baby showers, Sunday School parties and fall gatherings.

A devoted Christian, Naomi served faithfully in many capacities at Temple Baptist Church and Immanuel Baptist Church. She taught children's Sunday School as well as Girls' Auxiliary. She helped organize and run Vacation Bible School. Naomi sang in the choir and would often sing ''specials'' before sermons on Sundays.

Naomi was an amazing woman, who fiercely loved God and her family. Her willingness to sacrifice, support and love will be forever ingrained in the hearts of her family.

Naomi is survived by her children, Paula Phelan (Jim) and Gaila Chatham (Gary); her grandchildren, Abigail Rainwater (Ben), Garret Benson (Marlee), Emily Chatham, Oliver Chatham and her great-grandchildren, Hannah Rainwater, Ruth Rainwater and Beau Benson.

Naomi was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, David Henry Woodall, Jr; her parents, Sophia Langley Abbott and John Everett Abbott; her in-laws, Lucyle Rogers Woodall and David Henry Woodall, Sr; her sisters, Freida Glendine Good and Olan Elizabeth McWhorter and her brother, David Ralph Abbott.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Naomi's exceptional caregivers, Connie, Emily, Sherry and Victoria.

Visitation will be held at 9:00am on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Pinecrest Chapel (7401 Highway 5, Alexander, AR 72002). The funeral service will be at 9:30am. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery. Arrangements by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home.

I have very few childhood memories that don’t involve Mrs. Woodall. The best year’s were spent in that little neighborhood in Little Rock with The Woodalls just down the block. Paula and Gaila, I am sorry for your personal loss, but know she and your Daddy are rejoicing with one another. I’d love to think that our parents are once again laughing together. Prayers for your entire family.

I have been so blessed by a lengthy opportunity to care for Naomi! As both a longtime nurse and then caregiver, I have taken care of a lot of people, but this time with Naomi has been an exceptional joy! She really never complained despite a lot of health challenges. We laughed a lot too! She called me her “sista” which I so appreciated since I never had a sister!! I have loved getting to know the family as well. You all radiate the love of Jesus in your relationships and actions!
