Susan Hogan Standridge

of Conway, AR

October 29, 1941 - March 24, 2024

Susan Hogan Standridge, 82, of Conway Arkansas departed this world on March 24, 2024. She was born October 29, 1941, and was preceded in death by parents, Catherine Turnbow Hogan, and Maynard J. Hogan. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and teacher.

Susan was born and raised in Conway. She graduated from Conway High School before attending the University of Arkansas and later receiving a master's degree in history from the University of Central Arkansas. Soon after, Susan began teaching History and English at Heber Springs High School. She dedicated her life to shaping young minds, instilling a love for history in her students, and nurturing their growth both academically and personally.

Susan had a passion for reading, current events, and history. She also had a contemporary awareness of this world in spite of her age. Those who truly understood Susan enjoyed her dry sense of humor, noteworthy dialogue, and sharp, sarcastic wit. It was a well-known fact that Susan had an unending intrigue for the second millennium, often talking enthusiastically about the Battle of Hastings. However, even more impressive than her knowledge of History, was her awareness of modern-day issues. Both past and present were strong in Susan's mind up until the end. She often worried for those who have lost rights, especially the rights of women, and rights lost due to the banning of cherished books.

Above all, Susan relished her role as a grandmother the most, finding great pride and joy in the precious moments spent with her grandchildren.

In addition, she was a longtime member of two women's philanthropic organizations, PEO, and the 20th Century Club.

Susan is survived by her children: Gray Standridge and Rachel Standridge, daughter in law, Judi Standridge, grandchildren: Margaret Ann Standridge, fiancé Brandon Taylor, Nathaniel Standridge, wife Coleman, and Ella Harlan.

At Susan's request, there will be a sunset graveside service held at Oak Grove Cemetery after her gravestone is in place, day and time to be announced later.

Susan will be missed by her family, students, and friends. Comfort can be brought to those who knew Susan, by knowing that she is resting in peace, whether that be an afterlife or a new life as she believed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Renewal Ranch or Conway Ministry Center in her memory.

Through Gray, I came to know Susan and the rest of the family personally. She, and the entire family, were so kind, and always welcoming to me. I will truly miss her. May God bless and keep her family during this time of bereavement.

Susan was a kind of surrogate member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Conway. She brightened our day every time we had lunch with her and the rest of the Episcopal gang. I was very fond of her humor, passion, and laugh. She is missed, but is out of pain and with God. May her soul, and the souls of all the departed, rest in peace through the mercy of God. Greg +

I grew up with Susan. We lived only a few houses apart. I am sorry to hear of her passing.
