Wanda Louise Shields

of Harrison, AR

April 17, 1936 - January 18, 2024

Wanda Louise Shields of Harrison, Arkansas passed away quietly on Thursday, January 18, 2024, surrounded by her family. Wanda was born April 17, 1936, in Harrison to John and Viola Mae Lawrence. She was the second oldest of five siblings. She grew up in Harrison, graduating from Harrison High School.

In 1955, she met a tall and handsome young marine, Eustice Bill Shields, who stole her heart. They were married on Christmas Day that same year. Shortly thereafter they relocated to Scotia, California, where their two daughters were born. In 1970, they moved back to Harrison to raise their children, Ramona and Delores.

Wanda and Bill were married until he died in 2010. She was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church, where she worked in hospitality and put her love of children to use working in the nursery. She loved sitting in Church between her grandchildren and great-grandsons as they worshipped the Lord.

Wanda enjoyed playing bingo with the Senior Club, where she served as president. She was the weight recorder for the TOPS program and made some very good friends there. She also relished the opportunity to go to yard sales with her family.

She found joy in her love of Jesus and the love of her family. Of all the various jobs she had through the years, her most fulfilling was being a homemaker. She loved hugs and being around people.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; her sisters, Lillian (Wise), Jeane (Ohde) Johnnie Sue, and her brother, Arthur.

She is survived by her daughters, Ramona and husband, Don Griffith, Delores and husband, Tom Gusewelle; her grandchildren, Eric and wife, Helena, Greg and wife, Amy, Brad and wife, Tina, Jeremy McAnally and Kelly and husband, David and between them nine great-grandchildren, Toby, Libbie, Darian, Dylana, Aidan, Arya, Blake, Alex and Luke.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff of The Springs of Mt. Vista Health & Rehabilitation in Harrison for their kindness and compassion in taking care of Wanda until the end.

A celebration of Wanda's life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 11:00 am, at Woodland Heights Baptist Church and the family would love to have you celebrate her life with us.
