December 26, 1933 - January 16, 2024

Glenn Ervin Avra, 90, of Nacogdoches, Texas died at his home on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 from complications of metastatic melanoma. Private services will be held for family at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, Arkansas with interment at Beryl Cemetery.

Glenn was born December 26, 1933 in Beryl, Faulkner County, Arkansas to Heber Avra and Valree Fugatt Avra. He and his sister, Linda, were raised on the Avra's farm and helped their father with the family business, Beryl Grocery Store.

After graduating from Vilonia High School in 1951, Glenn served until 1953 as a U.S. Army Specialist 5 (later called Sargent) in the Korean War. After the war, Glenn attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering in 1960. Glenn met Florilla Donaldson while working in Dallas and married her on June 17, 1961. They were married for 50 years-parting when she passed away in 2011.

Glenn worked as a safety consultant for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1992. The family resided in Kingwood, Texas for 50 years.

A devout Christian, Glenn was baptized on August 22, 1943 at Beryl Baptist Church in Faulkner County, Arkansas. After settling in Kingwood, Texas, he joined Second Baptist Church (formerly known as Forest Cove Baptist Church) where he was a member for 50 years. Glenn was first ordained as a deacon in 1965 at Baring Cross Baptist Church, North Little Rock, Arkansas and continued this service at Forest Cove Baptist Church and later Second Baptist Church. After moving to Nacogdoches in 2022 he joined First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches where he very much enjoyed attending the Kerr Sunday School class.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Florilla Donaldson Avra; his parents, Valree and Heber Avra; his sister, Linda Bryant and her husband, Jim. He is survived by his three sons and their families: Christopher T. Avra and his wife, Donna of Nacogdoches, Texas; Gregory A. Avra and his wife, Robin of Midland, Texas; Jeffrey D. Avra and his wife, Lisa, of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Erin and Seth Harper of Dallas, Texas; Courtney Avra of Nacogdoches, Texas; Cory Avra of Dallas, Texas; Tyler Avra of Loveland, Colorado; Katye Avra of Grand Prairie, Texas; Bryce Avra and his fiancée, Lynnee Gamboa, of Midland, Texas; Scott McWhorter and his wife, Emily Cole of Dallas, Texas; Griffin Avra of Austin, Texas; Jordan Avra of Dallas, Texas and great grandchildren, Layne, Rylee and baby boy Harper of Dallas, Texas; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Glenn's family deeply appreciates the many doctors, nurses and caregivers who assisted him during his illness, especially the staff at Visiting Angels of Lufkin and Harbor Hospice for their kind, attentive and tender care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches or Love, I.N.C. at www.loveincnac.org.
