Wade Armes

of Mountain Home, AR

January 5, 2024

Wade Armes, 92, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, entered into his heavenly home on January 5, 2024, at his daughter's home in St. Charles, Illinois. He was a wonderful godly man with a strong faith and happy demeanor. He had a great sense of humor and people loved being around him!

Wade was born in Luxora, Arkansas in 1931 to Ezra Garland Armes and Ima Drewry Armes. He grew up on a farm and became very adept at picking cotton. While in high school, he met the love of his life, Reatha Hicks. They eloped on November 4, 1950, getting married in a gas station after finding the courthouse had closed. They were married for 64 years.

In 1952, Wade and Reatha moved to Chicago and eventually to Joliet, IL, where they raised three children.

After a 32 year career at General Motors, Wade retired and moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas where he and Reatha enjoyed a very comfortable and fun retirement with many trips to Branson, Missouri, and to Illinois to visit their children and grandchildren. He was a longtime member of Zion Baptist Church in Joliet, Illinois, and First Baptist Church of Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Wade loved Jesus, his church, and was a man of prayer. He spent the majority of his adult life serving God faithfully. He was an active deacon for many years in both of his churches. He had a passion for studying the Bible and had read it through over 25 times, living a life that reflected what he read. Wade was a champion for Sunday School having served as Sunday School Superintendent for several years. He served on the visitation team as well. Wade enjoyed being outside doing yard work and spent many hours ''tinkering'' in his garage. He could fix anything!

Wade was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Reatha, in 2014. He is survived by his brother, Benny Jack Armes (recently deceased); wife, Wanda Armes; and three children Gail Jenkins of LaGrange, GA, Jackie (Byron) Ragains of St. Charles, IL, and Alan Armes of Mountain Home, AR. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Todd (Robin) Jenkins, Clark (Sara) Ragains, Mandy (Terry) Sledd, Sunny Jenkins, and Cameron Ragains, and four great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be Friday, January 26, 2024, with the family receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Roller Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Mountain Home with Dr. Tad Rogers officiating. Entombment will be in Baxter Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Faith.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Mountain Home, 400 Club Blvd, Mountain Home, AR 72653, or Elderday Center, 328 W Wilson St, Batavia, IL 60510.

Wade and I became friends when I was a mission pastor in Dwight. Zion Baptist contributed to our financial support. His visits to FBC Channahon always brightened my day. Your parents were truly Top Shelf people. My heart hurts for you and your family. Praying God's grace for each one.

In my knowledge of and interactions with Wade, I found him to be a man of God and a delightful person to be around just as described in his obituary.
