I served in the Army.

Joe Wayne JonesI am a Veteran.

of Scotland, AR

December 30, 1940 - January 14, 2024

Joe Wayne Jones of Scotland, Arkansas was born on December 30, 1940 in Scotland, Arkansas to the late Johnnie and Ester (Blue) Jones and peacefully passed from this life on January 14, 2024 at his home in Scotland. He was the last survivor of his siblings, leaving behind a great legacy of faith in Christ. Joe was deeply loved and greatly respected by all who knew him.

He was reunited in Heaven by his granddaughter, Brianna Jones; his parents and siblings, Olen J. Jones, Wanda Sue Meeks, Mary Lou Hanks and Addie Rue Sowell.

Joe graduated from Scotland High School and served in the Army for a short time as a medic. He was a faithful member and deacon of the Scotland Baptist Church. It was there, in the 'old church' that Joe gave his life to Jesus at the tender age of 16. He pursued many interests in his life; however, the Lord was always first and foremost, followed closely by his love for family and farming. Joe was a good example of what a loving husband and dad should be. He loved Jesus and enjoyed telling people about Him. Anyone who knew Joe knew that his wife, children, daughters-in-law and grandchildren meant the world to him. One of Joe's greatest accomplishments was passing his passion and love for Jesus on to his family. He enjoyed get-togethers with his family, fish fries, Thanksgiving and Christmas. These were just a few of his favorite meals. Joe was also a prolific poet. He has honored many of his family and friends with poems of tribute upon their passing. Everything about Joe always circled back to his being a good Christian man.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Wanda (Farmer) Jones; two sons; David Joe Jones, Sr. and wife, Tina, Ronnie Jones and wife, Kerri; grandchildren, David Joe Jones, Jr., Trinity Jones, Jazmyne Jones, Kasten Jones, MaKayla Jones, Olivia Jones, Kendall Jones, Addisyn Jones, Janice Lovell and husband, James; four great-grandchildren; a beloved church family; extended family and many friends.

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the Scotland Baptist Church in Scotland, Arkansas. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Scotland, Arkansas.

The family of Joe Jones would like to say "Thank you" for all of the kind words, cards, flowers, food, the stories about Joe. and mostly the prayers There are no words to truly tell you how much this has meant to their family. Prayers are still appreciated as Wanda and her family navigate through their loss of Joe.

The thing i will remember the most about Mr. Jones is his poetic talents in creating a great poem forthe people that passed around the community, each one fitting the person so very well and he would always try to put a little something to make people laugh in it, he was a great man and great member of our little community, LEAVES ME WITH A SADNESS WONDERING WHO WILL BE HONORING HIM WITH SUCH A GREAT SENTIMENT AS A POEM! He will be greatly missed! My thoughts and prayers got out to Mrs. Wanda and the boys.

There’s more to be said about Joe Wayne than can even begin to mention. I don’t recall a single time that I saw him, that he didn’t greet me with a smile and a hey Todd, how are you doing He was a pillar to the community and pleasant guy to be around. I can’t recall anything negative about him. I am proud to say I grew up knowing him and his family. I believe we could all learn from the example he set before us. He will be greatly missed as one of the best we have had in the Scotland community. I ask God to bless and comfort during this time of loss.

Joe was one of a kind. Always thinking and doing for others. I remember I asked him to write a poem for my mom's birthday some years back, he did an amazing job and even came to her party and read it. I so appreciated him agreeing to do that for her. A great friend and an example to all.

Bro Joe you are going to be missed here on this earth more than you know. I loved talking and visiting with you. You always talked about God and stories in the Bible. Aways asked questions to see what we knew. I looked up to you. We may not had agreed on everything but agreed to disagree.
Most of all I'll miss my Joe hugs. I always looked forward to them and missed them when either of us missed church.
Looked for my mommy and dad in heaven. Visit with them. Tell them I love them and miss them.
One day I'll get to join you all and what a time we will have. Meanwhile you keep a watch on us down here.
Love you Bro Joe

So sorry for your loss. Joe was a great friend and we couldn't have had a better neighbor. He will be missed so much. We will miss him walking over or riding his side by side to see how we were doing or to share some of their garden veggies. I loved and will miss hearing his poems he wrote and read at church.
