Sue Harrison

of West Memphis, AR

January 4, 1947 - December 11, 2023

Loretta Sue Harrison passed away peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2023 at her home in West Memphis, Arkansas. She was about one month shy of her 77th birthday. Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Woodie Rex Harrison and her brother, Charles Taylor Guy, II.

Sue was born on January 4, 1947 in Cottonwood Point, Missouri. She grew up, graduated high school and lived most of her life in West Memphis. On July 24, 1962 she married the love of her life, Woodie Rex Harrison. She vigilantly loved and cared for him until he passed away in 2009. Sue and Woodie were blessed with three children, David, Jennifer and John. While raising her children, she attended cosmetology school and earned her professional cosmetology license. She worked as a cosmetologist for many years and her last official job was at Shear Tek in West Memphis. She also worked nights and weekends at Southland Greyhound Park. While serving as stylist to family, friends, loved ones and strangers who needed or could not afford a haircut, she embarked on a career with the Internal Revenue Service. She achieved many certificates, awards and successes and genuinely loved her job. Throughout her 25+ years with the Federal Government, she ultimately retired as a Tax Fraud Investigative Aid with the Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS.

Sue had a heart of gold, full of love, compassion, generosity and acceptance. She believed in the power of prayer and put all of her faith in God. She had an infectious smile that brightened days and lifted spirits. Sue was optimistic, had an unrivaled sense of humor and was the source of side-splitting laughter. She was the eldest of eight children and helped raise her siblings, her nieces and nephews, their children and even nonfamily members. She never met a stranger, she embraced differences and she was known to many as ''Mama Sue''. She would not let you go hungry, be without a place to stay, without a fresh haircut, a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. Without question or judgment, she would not hesitate to open her heart and home. She petted, loved and tried to feed every dog and every child. Fostering homeless or elderly dogs brought her immense joy. Love and kindness to all was what she taught and how she lived her beautiful life.

While Sue adored and provided for many, the air she breathed was her three children. David Lee, Jennifer Sue and John Taylor were her life and reason for living.

From career to career, while being an amazing and loving wife to their father, while oftentimes working three jobs, she was ALWAYS there for her children with love, acceptance and open arms. She truly believed that her calling was to be a mother and home was wherever she was.

In Sue's final hours, she was surrounded by her family, her grand dogs and kids who knew and loved her as ''Sue Sue''.

Sue is survived by her three children, David Lee Harrison (Christine), Jennifer Sue Harrison (Angela) and John Taylor Harrison (Samantha). Also surviving are her mother, Sue Guy-Coleman (''Mama Guy'') and her siblings, Robert, Danny, Renee and Rhett.

The family expresses deep and special thanks to Mama Guy (Sue's mother) and Karen Tullos (Sue's dear friend and loving caregiver), who provided patience, peace, comfort, love, incredible care and joy to Sue at the end of her life.
Services will be held at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis, Arkansas on Saturday, December 16, 2023. The visitation is at 1:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the West Memphis Animal Shelter (500 South Loop Dr. OR 500 Rushing Rd., West Memphis, AR 72301 OR via PayPal on West Memphis Animal Shelter's website or Facebook page).

I am so sorry to hear of Sue’s passing. She was the first person who welcomed me into the Memphis office and immediately became a great friend. She always had a smile and could keep me laughing all day. Her stories were hilarious; I’m laughing now just thinking about them. She had a heart of gold and was brutally honest, don’t ask her opinion if you can’t handle what she’s going to say - I loved that about her. She never met a stranger and I’m sure she knew every single person that worked in that Federal Building. Heaven gained a good one! Prayers of comfort to Jennifer, David, John and the rest of the family. Rest in peace Sue and know that you brought joy to many lives.

What a lovely tribute to a beautiful soul. Mama Sue was indeed a Mama Bear for her beloved children, including the neighborhood kids, and an advocate for Girl Power!

She gave me my first perm in her kitchen on 17th Street and what a fun place that was! Great memories were made there. If those walls could talk!

David, Jennifer and John, hold on tightly to the sweet memories you made, knowing that she touched so many lives with her kindness and wit. She was truly one of a kind whose beautiful smile will never be forgotten.

Praying for strength and comfort for her family and many, many friends.

Much love,
Tina

Enjoyed working with Sue for the five years I served as Supervisor of IRS- Criminal Investigations. Sue always had an infectious smile and a good story! I know she loved her family based on how she always talked about them. I had the pleasure of meeting each of her children and conversed with Jennifer on numerous occasions. Rest in peace Sue, you deserve it as you’re no longer in any pain. I pray for strength and peace for the entire family.

I worked with Sue from 2000 to 2010. In that time I got to see how devoted she was to her family and friends (furry friends included). Sue was great to work with because she always had a smile for everyone and she took her duties very seriously. She will be missed by many.
