of Damascus, AR
September 3, 1939 - November 5, 2023
Lane Hall, 84, of Damascus passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 in Conway, Arkansas. He was born on September 3rd, 1939 in Damascus to William L. & Ilon E. (Leslie) Hall. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Gina Mildred Hall Mantels, William Maurice Hall and Cora Mae Hall Shaw.
Lane was a Sergeant in the United States Army and a Mason with the Damascus Masonic Lodge. Serving as the Master Mason in 1976. In September of this year, he received his 50-year pin from the Masons, presented to him by Craig Wood.
He married Joyce West of Leslie, Arkansas (formerly of Christine, TX) while stationed in Fort Ord, California. Upon his discharge, they only had enough money for one train ticket home, so he sent her by train and he hitchhiked. He beat her home by 3 days. They ran the family farm and cared for his parents until their passing; all while working full time. In 1972, Lane & Joyce purchased a burned-out grocery store in Damascus from Mr. Jimmy Lewis. They raised their four children in that grocery store, teaching life lessons like non other. After years of building a successful business, they sold the store and returned to their previous working fields. He was a retired Estimator from Nabco Mechanical & Electrical, Inc. in Conway.
Lane was instrumental in establishing the Damascus Saddle Club and participated in Rodeos as a young man. He raised AQHA horses for many years. He enjoyed deer, elk and bear hunting, where he and friends spent many years hunting near Montrose, Colorado. He loved camping, enjoying the outdoors and was an avid Razorback Basketball fan. Lane was a member of the South Side Baptist Church, north of Damascus.
Lane is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Hall; four children, Nikki (Perry) Murdock of Quitman, Wesley (Lisa) Hall of Redfield, Lisa (Marvin) Holt of Harrison and Natalie (Frank) Evans of Conway. Eight Grandchildren, Jake Murdock, Ashley (Richard) Manning, Amanda (Bernie) McAleese, Matt (Lauren) Holt, Michael (Kayce) Holt, Paul (Clare) Evans, Joseph (Samantha) Evans and Katelyn (Jake) Simmoms. Willis Lane was a good friend. I enjoyed a short visit with him at South Side Baptist Church a few years ago.
So sorry to hear this. Lane was a special kind of man, and was always ready with a laugh.
Nikki, Joyce and family:
I am so sorry for the loss of Mr. Hall. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. May God give you peace and comfort in knowing that you will see him again. God Bless.
Hello Joyce. I left the Central Arkansas many years ago and Cindy and I have built a Great life on our own here in Western Arkansas. May times though, I have longed to be back there on a regular basis so that I could have ongoing contact with Family, Friends, and Extended Family like You and Lane. And it has been hard each time Daddy and One of "The Boys" left this earth. Now, with Lane being called home, it truly feels like the end of an Era.
As You Recall the Life you two created, please allow me to ask you to remember the time that you helped Cindy and I out, in the days and weeks before Daddy died, back in '96. You did not have to open your home, there on the hill, up to these two toddlers like you did, and as often as you did.
I don't know if either Erin or Eli remember much of those days. But I know you do. And for the few times that we relegated the kids out to someone else's care, outside of Grandmas, we were always able to find exemplary examples, like you two, to help us care for and raise them.
And let me tell you to be Proud of your time with them. They have become Wonderful Adults themselves. Erin is a respected Elementary Teacher in Springdale. And with her Husband Aaron, they gave us a Grandson, Caleb, just over a year ago. And Eli has a Wonderful Wife, Hannah. They just added another LESLIE BOY to the World's Population, Ezekiel, after two Grand Daughters, Parker, and Briley. And Eli is starting 4 years as Children's Pastor at First Baptist Fort Smith, where we have fellowshipped as a Family since that time back in '96. Yes, you helped us get them there.
Please accept this note as a HUG AROUND THE NECK. We Love You… Be Blessed!
Sorry for your loss. I so enjoyed being around him back in the day. He could and would make everybody laugh.
Joyce, you have my deepest sympathy.
I knew Willis Lane from my high school days and our paths crossed
again after we both were adults. Joyce and Lane, Wendell and I socialized for many years. Joyce and family you will miss him terribly, but memories of good times will help. So sorry for your loss.
Willis Lane was a friend to everyone!
I talked to him a couple of months ago and was able to tell him how much I appreciated his friendship.
May the good Lord long bless his memory!

Willis Lane (cuz) and I spend a lot of time together when we were young. He would spend nights with me and I spend many nights with him. Uncle Will was a great story teller, he would tell us scary stories about hunting wild animals that kept us awake after we went to bed. After I left Damascus we had little contact except at visitations when someone would die. Our cousins would laugh about that it would take a death for us to see and talk with each other. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
He will be missed beyond words. The mountain trips won't will never be the same.
Mrs. Joyce and family, we are so sorry to hear of the passing of Lane. He was a great man. Our Prayers are with each of you.
Love you all!
