December 27, 1921 - November 1, 2023

Margie Snipes Caffey passed away on November 1, 2023 at Marianna Crestpark. She was 101 years old.

Mrs. Caffey was born in Memphis to Mack and Katie O'Rourke Snipes on December 27, 1921. She was the youngest of four children, all of whom have preceded her in death. Born in Memphis, Margie lived with her aunt and uncle, the McDonald's, in Lula, MS after her mother passed away. She attended school at Lula Rich and graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1940. She received her Bachelor's degree from Delta State in 1944 and began her teaching career at the Old Helena High School. She worked there for two years before returning to her Alma Mater to teach social studies and coach girls basketball. She also taught High School English at Fraizer in Memphis. Later taught in Florida. After receiving her Master's Degree from the University of Memphis, she returned to the Helena-West Helena School system and worked as a Guidance Counselor until her retirement in 1987. Margie was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a lifelong member of the West Helena Baptist Church. She worked in the junior department and later served as a leader in the retired seniors and the Joy Fellowship.

Last year I had the opportunity on 2 occasions to stop in and visit with Mrs. Margie in Edgewood circle . She lived right across the street from us . We caught up on and talked about every one in the neighborhood. I am so glad to have had those visits and I will cherish them . What a beautiful soul . She is home now and God bless .

Mrs Caffey was a great teacher and friend to many. Her life was devoted to teaching. She was my English/literature teacher in the seventh and eighth grades at Woodruff School in West Helena. I remember when I use to take her a bouquet of my purple hydrangeas. She was always so appreciative. She will be missed by many, but is now resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior.
