October 18, 1935 - October 3, 2023

Joseph Michael Washington, son of the late George E. Washington and Annie Jelinek, was born October 18, 1935 in Houston, Texas. He departed this life October 3, 2023 in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 3 days.

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Sue Jones on July 28, 1957 and to this union 3 children were born. Joe spent his life as a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, provider and friend. His working career began as an employee for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri just after getting married. Later, he moved to Calico Rock and was an auto mechanic at the City Garage for many years before retiring to his farm work. He took much pride in his farm and cows.

He is survived by one daughter, Susan Hamby of Wideman, Arkansas; one son, Michael Washington of Wideman, Arkansas; one sister, Alice Dockins of Bandmill, Arkansas; one brother, Andrew Washington of Washington; two sister-in-laws, Shirley Washington of Brockwell, Arkansas and Wilma Washington of Calico Rock; one brother-in-law, Bill Norris of Little Rock; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of other relatives and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn Sue of 63 years; son, Tommy Washington; two brothers, George Washington, Jr. and Charles Washington; one sister, Georgia Norris and one brother-in-law, Kenard Dockins.

Graveside services will be held at Wideman Cemetery Friday, October 6, 2023 at 2:00pm under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville with Leon Morehead officiating.

I am sorry to learn about the loss of Joe. I have known him since school days.
He was always a pleasant, friendly person anytime you saw him. All the family
is in my thoughts and prayers.
