Mary Beth Wingfield Downey, age 80, of Conway passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at her home in Conway. She was born December 17, 1942 in Arkadelphia, AR.
Mary Beth grew up in Gurdon (Clark County), Arkansas and was a graduate of Gurdon High School and Henderson State in Arkadelphia. In high school, she was known for her leadership and great personality. Her accomplishments there were cheerleader, class president, homecoming queen, and Most Beautiful. Later, she taught elementary grades as a young adult; and then became a homemaker and Bible Study Fellowship Leader for many years.
She is survived by her son Dennis ''Dennie'' Downey, Jr. and daughter Gena Downey Baker; grandchildren: Matt Mattingly, Savannah Baker Case (Jordan), Jay Downey (Catherine); and by great-grandchildren: Hazel Case; Charley, Paisley, and Oliver Mattingly; and Henry and Hayes Downey.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dennis Downey, Sr.; by her parents J.W. and Reva Tarpley Wingfield; by grandson Luke Baker; and by her sister, Sarah Wingfield Plyler.
She was a devoted wife, mother, MeeMaw, aunt, cousin, and special friend to so many and will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held at Center Grove United Methodist Church in Okolona (Clark County), AR on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 2pm.
A very special ''thank you'' to Arkansas Hospice and to Conway Regional Home Health for all their care and services.
