of West Memphis, AR
October 6, 1936 - May 10, 2023
Alfred S. Saig, 86, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at his home in West Memphis, Arkansas. He was born one of five sons, to Sam and Fahima Sabra Saig in Memphis, Tennessee on October 6, 1936.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Danny Saig and Victor Saig.
He spent his childhood in Earle, Arkansas and worked in his father's business, Friendly Department Store. In the sixties his dad built a clothing store in West Memphis. Alfred and his brothers worked in the store and later Alfred managed the store that was known as Saig's Great Clothes for Men. It served as a staple in the community for over 50 years. Between Alfred and his father, Saig's was in business in Crittenden County for over a century.
Alfred was a member of First Presbyterian Church in West Memphis. He had numerous friends at Calvary Baptist Church and had the privilege of being accepted into a fellowship of men at the First Baptist Church. This group of friends became one of the most spiritually nourishing aspects of Alfred's life.
He loved playing tennis and golf throughout his life, which rewarded him with countless lifelong friendships.
He married Anita in 1988 and became a father to her son, Justin. He cherished his family and had a beautiful life enjoying each other's love, support and laughter right up until the very end.
Alfred will always be remembered as a loving and committed husband, father and friend. His joy for living, love for people, heartfelt stories and enduring faith in Christ will be forever missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Neal Saig; one son, Justin Pollan (Heidi); two grandchildren, Wallace Pollan and Shepherd Pollan; two brothers, George Saig and Eddie Saig (Sally) as well as many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Crittenden Memorial Park, 2206 Hwy 64, Marion, Arkansas at 11:00 AM.
Memorials should be sent to the First Presbyterian Church in West Memphis.

I am so sorry to hear of Alfred's passing. He was so dear to our family. I know he meant the world to my mom. I guess they are talking tuxes again in heaven. Love to the Saig family.
Anita, My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Alfred was always so kind and helpful to all those he served in the store and elsewhere. It was such a loss to the community when he finally decided to close the store. My husband always loved to go in and chat with him off and on while he was out an about in his work. I myself remember going into the Saig and Sons store as a teenager myself. A great family to do business with. His love and smiles and helpfulness with be terribly missed by all who knew him.
Wow, what memories. Superb individual who trained many a young man in the art of salesmanship, and men's clothes! To work at Saig's during the summer, or Christmas Break, was always an honor for so many Crittenden County young men.
Alfred's exploits on the tennis court shall be revered as well. I never saw him happier than when he met, then married Anita. She has been the bright candle in his life. He will be missed, but his memories will endure forever.
Alfred and his family were part of my life growing up in West Memphis. He was a true gentleman. He seems to be part of a lot of my family's life. I remember riding my bike a few blocks to his parents house to pick up flatbread his mother would bake (I called it "wholey" bread because it was empty inside). Alfred played tennis with my father and older brothers. And then there were the many years where one or more of my brothers or I worked at "the store". Alfred was very good at cajoling or threatening his young store help to try and keep us focused on work --- not on a game of "Name that Tune" for the background music. It seemed like every man in the County and beyond came by the store on Christmas Eve to go back and visit Alfred and his brothers in the store office. I was very glad to hear years after I left West Memphis that Alfred and Anita had married. I knew Anita from riding horses at the barn near the high school. I hope they found love and support with each other. My condolences to Anita, her family and to Alfred's family on your loss. Alfred will live on in the many memories he created in all the lives and people he touched and in your hearts.

I knew of Alfred many years ago because of Saig Clothing Store but the last few years I got to know him. We went to the same coffee group that met twice a week at church.
He had such a wealth of information about West Memphis and the Mid South. I will miss those times of hearing his stories. Our last couple of times of communicating was on the phone.
I know I'll see him again and I'm happy he is in his eternal home with Jesus and loved ones.

Albert and his wife Anita were at Holy Cross Episcopal Church when I became organist there. I look towards their house every time I'm at church whether I'm there to practice or play a service. They were both very supportive and kindly toward me.
Alfred and Anita loved sharing Eastern Arkansas with us. They introduced us to some restaurants we would never have found on our own. Alfred was a great guy, great to be around and a prolific storyteller. I will always remember and miss his laugh.
