Betty L. Smith, 87, passed away May 1, 2023 at The Springs of Broadway in West Memphis, Arkansas. She was born, February 15, 1936 to William Carl and Ocie Velma O'Neal in Olivehill, Tennessee.

She is survived by her daughter, Lesa Pope (Danny); granddaughter, Jaclyn Kelly (Fiance Sung Walker); three great-grandchildren, Rachael Wood (Jeff), Chander Kelly and Luke Kelly; four great-great-grandchildren, Colton, Kamden, Jaxxon and Weston; two sisters, Sherry Rushing (John) and Peggy Littleton (Ronald) and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly with a uniquely special bond with niece, Chelsie Whiteside and her special caregiver, Lisa Hoard.

Mrs. Smith was of the Baptist faith. Her career included working in the meat packing section of the Big Star Fooderteria in West Memphis for many years. Later she became a caregiver for elderly friends and family, helping with cooking, cleaning and other tasks as needed. She loved everything Elvis and her dogs, Titan and Zeus. Hobbies she enjoyed included crocheting, electronic games and working word search puzzles.


Betty was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William, Alton and Jerry O'Neal and three sisters, Velma Byram, Madris Machen and Kay Gossage.

The family would like to thank The Springs of Broadway workers and staff for the care that Betty received as well as the Dierksen Hospice staff.

A Visitation will be held at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, 201 N. Pine St. in West Memphis, Arkansas on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 10:00 am with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Arkansas.

Lesa, Jackie. I am so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. Ms. Betty was a great lady. I remember her working at Big Star when it was on Missouri St. I also remember the wonderful times we all had at your Grandmother's house. She is resting in the arms of Jesus. Love/Prayers always.
