Heaven has gained an Angel indeed. Joe will forever be missed here on earth. He always had a way to make you smile on your saddest days. He was a hero to many. Love and peace in the days to come until we meet again.

I worked with Joe at Rand Wholesale from 1973 until they closed. There was never a dull moment when Joe was around. I remember Joe telling about playing golf with George Morris late one afternoon close to dark. George hit a tee shot into tall grass. After looking he finally thought he found his ball. When he hit the ball on his next shot it exploded into many pieces. It was a white mushroom. George looked at Joe and said “don’t you tell anyone”. Joe said “I won’t tell anyone till I see them”. Joe was such a joy to be around. We all went our separate way after Rand’s closed, but I think of him quite often. God bless you Joe. See you again in heaven someday.

My condolences to the West family. Rest in peace Joe. We never got to meet but we are related. Clyde West was my grandfathers brother Orville West who passed in 1987. His son was William Orville West that passed in 1959. I am his only son Daniel Hayden West and 64 years old. God bless the West family. Peace and love to you all.

To the West We the McCray's, Mason's, Crenshaw's Forte's would like to send our condolences to your families. I can remember Joe and Bo would come by the house to visit mom and pop. I can remember Clyde some. I can remember Huanito also. Your dad, mom, uncles, and aunts were such sweet people. They looked after everyone in the community. This was back when families stood together. I don't care who your parents were, if you got out of line you were quickly put back in place. I miss those days. Skin color was not an issue. Our community was based on love, caring, and respect. We are praying for you all and know you all will always be a part of our lives. FLY High Joe!!

As being a second cousin, Joe treated me like a brother. He was close with my dad in younger years. They had great times and stories together. Joe even named a puppy after me ,trying to make me happy. Couldn't help to love the guy and great humor about life.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your father. He was one of a kind. He had a heart as big as the sky and an awesome sense of humor equally as big. I don’t know of any one that didn’t think the world of your daddy. He will always be thought of as my family and I will miss him dearly. I can only imagine how much brighter heaven is right now with his presence and how loud the laughter is because I know he’s got ‘em rolling. I will miss him for the remainder of my life. Love and hugs to all of you.
