Linda Faye Williams

of West Memphis, AR

May 16, 1942 - March 24, 2023

Linda Faye Williams, 80, left this Earth on March 24, 2023, quietly at home and surrounded by family. While her death was quiet, her life was loud, loving, and worth celebrating. Linda, called Aunt Faye by some and Nanny or Mom to a lucky few, will be remembered for many things: her iron-sharp quick wit and playful sense of humor; the way her hugs swallowed you whole, despite her small frame; how she never met a stranger; and her expansive collection of owls. She was headstrong and feisty with a certain way of always getting what she wanted. Her smile was at once comforting and mischievous, and her eyes always had a sparkle to them suggesting that she might be up to something.

But more than anything, Linda will be remembered by the unparalleled love she had for her family. Linda's relationship with Lee Roy, her husband of 62 years, was the paradigm of marriage and partnership. What started out as two crazy kids eloping during a costume party ended with two slightly older kids still wildly in love and inseparable by anything other than death.

Together, Linda and Lee Roy raised two beautiful children, Cindy and Scott. They also helped raise multiple grandchildren, all of whom took full advantage of the fact that their grandparents lived walking distance away growing up.

Linda's love permeated her family's entire lives. When the world was cold and cruel, she was always waiting to take away the pain with open arms. When the chaos of life was overwhelming, she was our compass, navigating us to safer waters. Her house was a source of joy and celebration, with gifts and food abounding, largely thanks to her ability to pinch pennies while never letting her family go without. She was frugal but never a miser, giving freely of her love, her wisdom, and her things. She looked forward to great-grandchildren visits and used the last of her energy to make her great-grandsons shake with laughter like she had made the rest of us for our entire lives.

Whether it was food, money she slipped in your purse or pocket, a little small town gossip, or just an overwhelming sense of love, no one ever left Linda's house empty. When Linda's family hears the word "home", it is her house that comes to mind first, no matter how long it has been since they resided there. Linda's face lit up with pride anytime she had the chance to talk about her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren. It was this unwavering devotion that instilled a sense of self-worth and independence in those she loved the most. It is hard to doubt yourself when you have someone in your corner who so truly believes in you so deeply. We are who we are because she told us we could be anything we wanted---except more right than she was. Even in Linda's final moments, she was not concerned for herself, but for those she loved. She had a servant's heart and maintained that to the end.

She leaves behind her legacy of love in the form of the following individuals: Her husband of nearly 63 years, Lee Roy; her children Cynthia Edwards and Scott Williams; her granddaughter Brittany Edwards, (Christopher Ishmael), and grandsons Keith Edwards (Regan), John Williams, and Greyson Edwards; and great grandchildren Enzo, Ike, and Dean. Linda was a longtime member at Avondale Baptist Church in West Memphis. In her final days, she took comfort that she would soon be reunited with her Mom, Dad, and siblings, all of whom predeceased her. Linda requested a private graveside burial with only immediate family. To allow those whose lives she touched to say their goodbyes, a public visitation will be held from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis. A celebration of life will be held beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Avondale Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, so that one day families can be spared the pain of losing their loved ones twice.
