Betty "Susie" Sue Kopf

of Searcy, AR

August 31, 1949 - February 25, 2023

Betty Sue ''Susie'' Kopf died at home on February 25, 2023, holding hands with her husband and daughter. She was born August 31, 1949, in Calhoun City, Mississippi. She was the first child of Thomas Gale Smith and Marjorie Ann Riddle Smith. Susie graduated valedictorian from Bruce High School in 1967 and studied business at Mississippi College for Women and the University of Mississippi. While at MSCW, she met her future husband, Jim, who was attending Mississippi State University in Starkville. They were married in June of 1969. They lived in Oxford, Grenada, and Ridgeland, MS, and Searcy, AR.

Susie worked for the United States Department of Agriculture in the office of Rural Development for 28 years, in Grenada and in Jackson and made numerous friends along the way, seeing people as God sees them, helping them see that they matter. Susie was outwardly focused; the family thinks this was her greatest gift.

Susie attended both Southside Church of Christ in Grenada and Meadowbrook in Jackson for her adult years until moving to Searcy in 2020 where she attended Downtown Church of Christ. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in both Grenada and Searcy.

She is survived by her husband Jim, her daughter Loren Kopf Beason and her husband Clay, and her granddaughter Ann-Clayton Hayes Beason, all of Searcy, Arkansas; her brothers George Smith and his wife JoAnn, of Counce, Tennessee, and John Smith and his wife, Nancy, of Vicksburg, Mississippi.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 17 at 11AM, visitation at 10AM, at Downtown Church of Christ in Searcy, AR.

We met the Kopf family when they moved to Grenada and became part of the Southside Church family.

Susie was the kindest lady you would ever meet. Loren was the same age as my children and we have many fond memories of spending time together with that sweet family for many years!

Susie will be missed but now rejoicing in heaven and no longer in pain

I praise God for allowing me to have had her as a dear friend!

Praying for Jim, Loren and family during this time of grieving and adjusting to life without their loved one!

I had the pleasure of working with Susie when I was in college. She was a mentor and role model for me. Susie always came to work with a smile even when vertigo was getting the better of her. She was such a dedicated and ethical person. We shared many laughs and life lessons. We always remained in contact over the years. She was a dear friend and my life was enhanced richly by knowing her. Rest peacefully with God sweet lady. You’ve earned your crown.

There are not words to describe what Susie meant to me. I love her dearly and regret we didn’t get to see more of each other. There will always be a hole in my heart. A special person! Praying for God’s strength for the family.
